What age did all of you guys and girls get sick of school and get a job. I've just done work experience at an engineering place and loved it but everyone still says that I should stay at school. How long did you last there? _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

I bailed near the end of year 11. I had a apprentiseship lined up, and was keen to move on. I'd been sick of the school system for a fair while.....
The qualifications I held when I left school had me qualified to mop the floors at KFC. ( No Macca's back then.)
If I'd have got my HSC, I'd have been qualified to cook the chips there.
II don't know you at all Feral, but both our boys got the same advice.
If you can't do a trade, get educated.
Good Luck with your decisions. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

HSC at 18
Bachelor of Ag Science at 22
Been working full time ever since.
Post Grad in Cotton Production at 32
Thinking of doing my Masters next.........
I love learning!
My 2 cents worth. Don't leave school unless you can obtain an apprenticeship. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

I got sick of it first day.
4 years ago, my eldest son had the opportunity to either take an apprentiship and leave school in year 11, or stay in school and take a school based apprentiship which entailed him working 2 days a week and the rest at school.
I advised him to stay in school and finish his senior and take the school based apprentiship.
He took my advise and at the start of next year he'll be a fully qualified electrician, the youngest in the company. (under 21) He loves his job and they love him.
Another peice of advise, "it doesn't matter what you choose to do............ just do it well"
So my advise to you young feral is don't jump the gun, make sure you have an opportunity before you throw one away. _________________

i did TEE year 11 and was halfway through year 12 when i did my first work experience block and was offered an appreticship (mechanic with reconditioning experience). my grades were looking bad in year 12 so i took it.
never looked back, best decision of my short career so far. i enjoy what i do, its a small company so you get to know everyone well (i wouldnt work for rio tinto or BHP at the moment).
someday i would like to go to uni and study engineering, but i was never good with studing. |

if you get the chance to start an apprenticeship jump on the opportunity
just make sure it something you will enjoy doing. so many times i have seen people take an apprenticeship an after 2 yrs of it hate it and quit
and lose all the hard work they put in. i left school at 16 finished a trade in diesel fuel injection and now manage the shop i did my apprenticeship in. i'm 26 now but schooling is a important part of life aswell i still go to school a couple of times a year to do new training courses. |
