Com'on.......I'm monumentally unfit, old and slow..........I did it.
You get on the quad before the sun comes up and ride untill dusk dodgeing a few ant hills, KTM's and Pajero's on the way.
It's a great week off.........anyone can do it. |

Today 3 Stages covering 560km in total will take them from Coolgardie to Norseman
In the first stage (SS8 - Logans 216km) Colin Lawson is still on a charge besting John by 20min and Smitty by 30min. The second stage (SS9 - Pioneer) was shorter at 141km and Colin won by 6min over Paul and 43min over John.
At the time of writing SS10 is still runing, Paul Smith is still leading overall on his TRX700XX-Rallye.

This afternoon first on the road Jacob Smith (GHR Honda CRF450) crashed and needed to be hauled by helicopter. As he was first on the road the first to come upon him were the 2nd and 3rd place riders who stopped to render assistance and lost about 50min.
Details are scethchy but.......it seems that as a result the whole race was delayed on the road and by the time the leaders got to SS10 it was getting late in the day.
A low sun combined with dust became a real concern for the riders and it seems they have all made the decission to ride on to Norseman.
So my last update is how it stands at the end of day 4......More details to come. |

1 SMITH Honda TRX700XX 27:57:20
2 MARAGOZIDIS Interceptor 850 28:45:48
3 LAWSON Can-am Renegade 800 32:01:23
Cowchaser leads overall by about 50min but Colin Lawson has made back nearly an hour on him and 2 hours on John. The race is not over, if John or Paul have any issues over the next few days who knows what could happen. |

Episode 6 now up on the front page of thumbpump.com:

Sorry, not sure how to put it up here...Linc?
I spoke with Col last night. A wire from his map roller wore through during the second stage and he had to pull over to fix it. Besides that he had a great run. As we were chatting he mentioned that Smitty's Honda was being rolled into the welding shop again, but that generally happens with Smith every time he rounds up the cows, so I would not get worried about him just yet.

Yeah Smitty could break a mountain..........he has broken the bumper mounts off and the exhaust mounts. Hes has had a trouble free run compared to past efforts though. |

| WA quad rider Heath Young is sitting in 13th position outright. He was entered on his trick KTM quad but an electrical issue saw it burn to the ground......ouch........I hope to see him back on 4 wheels next year. |

Yea, he is having a pretty good run. With only 3 of them entered and pretty big gaps between each, they are just trying to preserve the bikes and get them home. Smitty did break his front bumper mounts, but he did that loading the bike before they even left Victoria! This was a case of "He broke them again". Everyone is having their share of little problems, now it all comes down to who has the least. That's Safari for you.

Todays stage 6 sees the guys endup in Esperance for Saturdays last stage with Paul Smith clearly in the lead but it's not over till its over. The minor possition changed on the last day of last year so anything goes.
Once again Colin has gone out hard and seems to have won the days 2 stages (320km) by about 15min...... |

Safari TV Ep 7 now up on www.thumbpump.com
Looks like Maggots engine gave up yesterday and he did not complete the stage. Anyone have more news on that one?

Am I reading the results correctly?
Did Maggots receive an 8 hour time penalty for not completing the day?
Here is a link to the penalties for the quads:
http://www.rallyresults.com.au/safari2010/showPenaltyt.asp?rVal=4735¶mVal1=3¶mVal2=¶mVal3=6
Man, that's a huge penalty!
As far as I can see, that puts Smitty in first place (where he was), Colin 3 hours 47 minutes behind him in second, then Maggots in third and trailing Colin by over 3 hours.
