Yea Vic, he puts his heart and soul into Safari. It's pretty much his only event for the year. I just hope he gets it going so he can at least finish the event. It's not all over yet! _________________ The way to this man's heart is through his esky

8hr penalty has got to suck but that is nothing compared to not finishing. The results page says "Maximum penalty" and I'm pretty sure that is for not completing a stage and having to be towed out by the broom waggon.
Johns issue ended up being a small one (it doesnt take much) and was fixed at the end of stage in 15 min. Fouled plugs caused by the carbie breathers on his mad max creation has cost him 2nd place........He started this morning and all is well.

Racing through the dunes.........what an awesome way to end a Safari.
Smitty is through the last stage and that would make him the 2010 Safari Champ. Today there was 4 stages (2 x 22km & 2 x 5km) and you would think it would be a forgone conclusion.
Colin Lawson who regained second place last night after John Maragozitis had a bad day has dropped off the timing sheet and seems o be stuck on the first stage of the day.
The last stage of the day is a repeat of the first; Cowchaser seems to have it in the bag but then he drops off the timing sheet also. He pops up again finishing 40min behind John........dropping 40min on a 25km stage.
Drama......

Colin Lawson crashed on the 1st stage of the day (SS15 - Esperence West 1 22.5km) and was stuck under his quad. Ater he freed himself he waited with a Japaneese rider who had crashed and was being Helicoptered out. He couldn't restart his quad so he waited till the quads came around for their second run at the stage and was towed to the finish by Smity. He crossed the line and is celebrating his 3rd place and finishers medal.

Just got home this arvo. Just want to thank you guys for all the support and Linc for the updates.
I might be the one with the accolades but we all know Pete dose all the hard yards in this race including building the bike travelling to the race driving the service truck working all night while I sleep. So big thanks old mate more your win than mine.
Also Kim Howard who is still halfway across th Nullabore driving my truck back for me we would be lost without you mate. Best refuel dude in safari and the most famous I reckon.
Also thanks to Col and Maggots and their crews, would of been a very lonly race without those guys.
All we need now is more of you guys to come and do this event because if you dont it will be lost to quads and we will never get it back _________________ Smitty

Hey guys, just got back and half way through unloading stuff.
Congrats to Paul and Col for finishing what I would consider the toughest race I have ever riden.
We had an absolute blast out there. We were there for each other every step of the way lending tools, air, plugs, whatever it takes just to get through.
We all had our fair share of problems, some worse than others but over all we had pretty good machines for the job.
Well done Pete for putting together a winning package for Paul to race. I hope you can offer the 700XX package to others as it seemed like a good thing. Hell, if Paul can't break it I dought that anyone else could either.
As for me I went to to Safari this year to test my new combination and learn how to ride it. Mission acomplished! The few things that set me back are easy to rectify for the future and I could not be happier with the handling and power of the new beast.
I hope that others have a go at this next year and share the experience of what I would call the greatest off road race this country has to offer.
Thanks to everyone that helped me work on, build, design, sell me stuff cheap or give me stuff for free and lend me stuff to race with.
Love and respect to all.
John. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting.

We just finished editing the first batch of video files from the footage Lisa took at Safari. Sorry it has taken so long. There are 3 video files on the front page of www.thumbpump.com and you will be happy to know, I didn't go straight for the Can-am stuff. I know Husky, that's not like me at all is it. The first three video files all feature 2010 Safari runner up John Maragozidis. Check them out.
