gday all,
apologies for all the newb questions of late but i've narrowed it down to these 4, I would really appreciate any opinions and suggestions about these quads, especially current or past owners.
the following are prices quoted to me today, which one though ?
Suzuki 250 Ozark $5900
Yamaha 250 Big Bear $7000
Kingquad 300 4X4 $7900
Polaris 300 2X4 Hawkeye $5990
these are ride away prices.
thanks

Of those 4 ....... The Suzi would be the pick the other 3 don't compare

i agree the kingquad is the pick but I think I'm going with the Polaris, the dealership has access to vacant land nearby so I had a chance to take it for a test yesterday (big bonus), pretty smooth with the IRS, simple to ride for the kids being auto, 2 yr warranty and I can't go past that price to be honest.
I probably would've gone with the Ozark but the exposed drive shaft put me off, I think after some beach work you'd be forever replacing the uni.
I'd still appreciate any opinions on the other quads, including the Polaris
cheers

thanks yogi,
i'll email the dealer about that, i specifically asked him if they were built in USA and he assured me they were, may have to pin him down on that one, from searching the net I can't really find any negative reviews, it did ride well when i took it for a spin.
gday JONO,
i was leaning towards the ozark but like i said, i think the exposed shaft would become a liability with any beach work.
cheers
Tommo
please keep the opinions coming fellas |

I'm biased (only green brand for me) but I'[d still buy the suzi in this case. _________________ 2005 KFX700

gday yogie, i'd be interested to know why, is it just a brand thing or a bad rap/experience with the polaris ?
cheers

I prefer Jap (USA made jap bikes ) bikes... simple as that, and the japs dont want bad press about dodgy bikes, Just what I think anyway. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Hi Tommo
how did you go? did you buy the Polaris? I am right in the middle of making the same decision. 2nd hand ozark for $4k or new hawkeye Polaris for $6k.
would love to hear your feedback? _________________ Go hard or go home |

Mate have had most makes shapes and sizes, had a klf 300 and hawkeye at the same time , couldn`t get rid of the hawkeye fast enough, very comfortable, but very cheap [made] , high reving and slow
klf easy to steer well made, not as much ground clearance as some, great gearbox, diff and lights. _________________ JUST DOIN IT |

Pretty sure the Hawkeye is made by Aeon mtr co in Taiwan, just like the Polaris Phoenix, which are reasonably bulletproof. Actually have a look on the frame for the manufacturers plate, somewhere near the front upper shock mnt, it may specify Aeon mtr co. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

hi just doin it,
how did you find the hawkeye slow? was it the gearbox ratios? was it slow in all gears. my concern is that it is only 3 speed and I need 1st gear for crawling and hi torque work? _________________ Go hard or go home |

Check we`re on the same page as the Hawkeye i`m talking about , and this quad was bought new not that long ago [new ] was belt drive, no gears, and found it would rev very high for little ground speed. Just had forward - nuetral - reverse, same price.
Klf 300 was 5 speed and reverse with diff lock and not much more $ and like i said a better quad. _________________ JUST DOIN IT |

I think the hawlk eye is one of the best selling atvs in oz, prob because of the value for money. I have never ridden one nor any of the others but if you can get irs on the rear end buy it you can beat it compared to solid rear end, auto for kids would also be benificial. _________________ 2012 sponsors, Working on it. |

You can change the clutch weights & springs to change the dynamics of the CVT (a bit like a stall converter in a car). Most of the Polaris CVT's share the same clutch hub so there is a range of interchangeable parts available. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

would that not make the polaris a deal more expensive having to buy springs and things.
horses for courses, it depends what you want to do and where you want to go, who wants to ride it and how , how long you want it and what you want to spend on it.
Mick ,your Polaris race bikes are good bits of gear, some other brands in this catergorey we`re talking about though will leave this quad for dead, but that`s just my 2 bob`s worth _________________ JUST DOIN IT |

thats some reallyhelpful feedback. the kawasaki is expensive they want $7999 new for the workhorse 300, compared to $5900 for the hawkeye. I was mostly comparing the hawkeye to the 250 class. I am concerned about the 3 speed box, that is clearly a big spread for such a small engine. _________________ Go hard or go home |
