We are planning on running UTV's in a separate race during the Thumb Pump weekend at Pinnaroo (SA/Vic border) and I was wondering, if I can get the insurance from a 3rd party like I need to for UTV (not sure if we can yet), how many of you trike riders would be interested in coming and running in your own off road race during the weekend? We can run the whole thing, you just need to rock up and race. By the way, the track is all sand, so please don't embarrass any of the quad riders by cutting quicker lap times than them...lol.

Looking at possibly running UTV and trike classes not under MA, so only public liability insurance for property owners and organizers. Sign an indemnity form and race at your own risk, like they do with ATV racing at the Hyden Ironman etc. Still keen? how many serious riders are we talking here, is it worth pursuing? I can make it happen if we get the numbers.

I am happy to continue looking into insurance options, but I just wanted to know if you trike riders were even interested in Enduro racing. I know you specialize in dunes, but is there enough of you who want to race through whooped out sand country for a couple of hours at a time? The other option is for you to come and ride around as track marshalls if you don't want to race. I just wanted to give you the opportunity to be part of the event, that's all.

I think you hit the nail on the head Mick, Trike riders ride mainly in the Dunes... Not because they can't ride anywhere else. It's just that trikes really perform well in that environment.
I would give my leftie to have a beach race or dune event on my trike, but the thought of hacking around the scrub in an enduro event makes me want to reach for my quad or even better a beer and a deck chair.
I was at the the precursor to trikefest, and even though my Tecate was running like an absolute pig that day, I have fond memories of doing sudo racing laps with a few 250R's around a little lake down at the bowl. You just can't have that much fun with your clothes on. No wonder they banned trikes. Too much Fun! _________________ State governments give us REC rego + area to ride ATVs legaly! Fair point you make there.
Anyhow, if any of you trike riders would like to come over and help track marshall on your trikes, let me know.

You 3 wheeled guys need to get in touch with Mick if you have any interest in the TP300 event.
I know there would be heaps of Quad (ex trike) guys like myself who would love to see you there, in one capacity or another.
The point of this thread is, you are being offered an opportunity to make trike racing in Australia happen.
I would have thought that dudes would come out of the woodwork to fire this up.
To some degree, Mick would even be open to suggestions on race format etc.
If it does not happen, an no-one is really fussed, thats cool.
But i'd hate to see such a rare opportunity get missed if you really would like to see a future in this sort of thing _________________ Can-Am X Team

Well said Daz. I think the main problem is that we are all over here on the east coast. _________________

One day licenses are cheap and easy under MA.
But these are all small details, what Mick really needs is for 6 or more of you to jump up screaming
"of course we'll be there, and we'll probably be able to find a heap more mates too".
Then he can tailor the racing to what you want.
It does not 'have' to happen, i just did not want you to miss out if you were keen _________________ Can-Am X Team

Very Hard to justify 15 hours driving and 1400 k's each way, hopefully some 3 wheelers closer to that area might get involved. |
