Hi guys and gals , would be great if we could get more people to this event .
to this end , it would be good if some of the people that have done the event
could give some info on bikes , setup , things to look out for and race advice .
There is some good info at http://www.yilgarnrallye.com.au/pdf/Navigation_Guidebook.pdf

on the nav equ required

is available to buy new from http://www.touratech.com.au , www.vincestrangmotorcycles.com.au and i think Ballards and the manual map rollers .

this is a great event and is suitable for most quad riders as you can ride it like a trail or race for the podium either way its a ton of fun in some top country , with the road sections as well .

I will start , rode this year . first time and first nav event .

Rode a stock 2008 Ds450 can-am ( thanks to Mick and Colin )
only changes from standard as listed
missing air box lid , steering damper . and some of the teeth on the rear sprocket .Twist throttle
i added flex bars ( thanks Casey) , my MD map roller and ICO on a bar mount (thanks Predatory ) my 22x8x10 Klaws with locks to the rear ( with adapters from Predatory ) my 23x7x10 front tyres my nerf mounted fuel tanks ( thanks HGR )

things i dident need - Flex bars - were great but not required .
skinny rear wheels and tyres - i liked them but not required .
additional Fuel i had an extra 14 lt way to much , made the longest run on the main tank , just needed a top up .
MD map roller - was great and will use it next time , but some had the manual ones and did fine .

Things i would change -
personal bike setup a bit different , just for comfort .
would like to go a little faster on the straight easy bits .
Would like more talent , skill and daring for all the other bits .

this year 1/2 the field was standard bikes , and i thing they had just as much fun , i loved the event finished 4th and i had problems with the nav .
please pm me or add to this post if you want any info .

Good stuff Brad ,

For Condo you only need enough fuel for about 120klms most standard tanks on quads will do this or just a small tank extra tank with 4or 5ltrs of fuel . My quad also pretty much standard less the front fairing oil cooler and 23' rear wheels just to give alittle extra top end speed , I had larger tanks on the nurf bars this is just for testing for safari

brad,
will be aiming to be there next year and hopefully brother and 1 more mate if i can get them interested enough thanks for the info so far i will be doing it on pretty stock suzuki ltr450 just got nerfs kill switch and a couple of other little things, would it be possible to do it easy enough with a manual mao roller as will probably ever only do this race or style of race once a year as funds dont allow me to travel every where and also what sought of stuff is required from support team is that basically meeting you at fuel stops etc and supplying more water food etc and if so is it accesable by 2 wheel drive car or do you need a 4wd to get to these fuel stops and any other info that you could think of

It's good fun for the support crew as they get their own set of instructions of how to get to the fuel stops. 2 wheel drive car is fine, but leave the ferrari at home because they are mainly dirt roads.
The service crew pretty much set up on the side of the road before the rider gets there with drinks, food and fuel. Assuming you don't break anything, that is pretty much all they need, plus maybe some tyre plugs, but then again the rider would probably have them on them already. It is a great form of racing for the crew because they get to be more involved in the race itself than they would in any other form of racing.

Yeah man a manual roadbook will be fine also means you dont have to do and ugly wiring, dont forget though you will need a odometer of some sort though

Hi Jason , as above ^^ for the most part , "cowboy"was there this year on a stock LTR , will see if i can find out how he mounted his map roller and what fuel he was carrying on the bike .

The trip meter is important , i have only used an ICO , but if any one has used a Vector or like can you let us know what you think as they are less than 1/2 the price .

As for service , if we can get a bunch of us we can work together and plan for breakdowns , recoveries that can make it hard to get to the next service point on time for the riders .

I used a TrailTech Vector in the Safari and thought it was great. The hand controller was easier to use and slimmer than my ICO so it fitted in with all the other stuff on the bars. I would the recomend the alloy protector.
