Here's something I'm chasing advice on. A mate of mine does ceramic coatings of engine parts, e.g. exhaust headers, 2 stroke chambers, pistons and basically any moving part of an engine. He asked me the other day bout my 250r if I wanted to get the piston coated and the chamber, he says the coating of the piston lessens the chance of detonation and helps against piston wear, the chamber getting done helps the piston slide and stops the piston from grabbing if it gets too hot. Is this safe to do to my 250r or is this something that should be avoided altogether?

I've heard of piston crowns being done but not actual sides of pistons. I can see problems with ring grooves and bore clearances.
If the engine is jetted correctly there should be no need for this mod.

i might have miss heard him on that, but doing the crown and the chamber is or isn't a good idea?

It's not doing the mod for performance or having jetting issues, it's added "reliability" and less wear on the piston and chamber

The coating for the piston skirts is a "moly" coating if I remember correctly. I've had no problems with any ceramic coatings before provided they were done by someone who knew what they were doing.

Yeah, this is getting done professionally not some backyard guy who has a spray gun and bought a cheap oven from somewhere like ALDI

You will have to put the elbow grease into the muffler now to match that shine.
