Here is my official Honda US90 Restoration thread that I will update from time to time as my project progresses.....

This is a 1970 Parrot Green US90 is mostly original, barn fresh condition rescued from a farm in Northern NSW where it looks to have been stationary for a while. I plan on doing a total nut and bolt restoration and have been on the hunt for nos parts to complete the project....

I have had the bike for a few months now and have totally disassembled the machine and started to clean the mountain of muck, grease, even mouse excrement - you name it - I wasn't sure if there was a machine worth saving under it all!

Of course to do the proper job - you either need the right tools or pockets full of money (probably both!)

I decided to go for one of those cheap ($350) sand blasters from China that comes in a flat pack and you put together yourself.

Three hours and 500 little nuts and bolts later..... the final product.

Of course once you get started.... you can't stop - and start blasting every piece - whether it is going to the shop to be replated/chromed or preparation for paint by me!

And the work continues... I am quickly gaining an appreciation of a completely restored vehicle - the amount of hours that goes into it.

Hi Aussie - I love all your posts and machines as well! I was hoping when finished to take a trip to Stockton and pay you a visit - and loved the action shots in the ATV mag!

I plan on painting this trike as it was originally painted - and have had the exact colour matched by a local paint shop.

The blasting cabinet is sold on eBay but I bought mine locally - and a 25kg bag of glass bead is $50 (you need a bag and a half to operate). You can use a normal domestic air compressor but if your tank isn't big enough the compressor will run flat out. Mine has a 40ltr tank and runs pretty much non stop. I have a moisture trap attached (necessary) to the compressor and I make sure it is ok with oil - plus I give it a 5-10 minute break every hour - that's it! I throw the iPod on to drown out the noise and blast away - sorta theraputic if you know what I mean. A guy with a bigger compressor (shop size) - would even do better. The internal cavity is like 850mm x 570mm so you can't get a frame in there but just about every other part will fit.

Here is a pic of my gas tank - even the blaster couldn't remove the stripes on the tank - they must have been decals originally. I didn't know what to use - when the Mrs suggested nail polish remover - bingo - I used acetone and it took it right off!

Greenhuman outbid me on a front fender recently (doh!) do I am still in need of a good one as well as two back tyres - looking for the OHTSU Balloons (isn't everyone?) and have the cash if you know of any...

Here is the front that arrived via USA - and boy was I excited!

The stripes must have been spongy.Anything you want to protect & not sand blast, coat it with silastic. Cool

Hi Tony

I been around, just don't have a 250r to ride since mine had a meltdown at stockton way back.
Got a nice 200X to ride though, sure is a change from the 2-stroke!

hi, just a little note regarding the bead blaster, something I learn a long time ago and is worth remembering. If you are using it on engine parts, either plug oil gallery drillings or make absolutely sure you get every speck of grit out as it can do nasty things to bearings and piston/ bores. I't's really hard sh*t and in doesn't wear down real fast.
Also, the really fine glass beads (looks like sand in hour glass) is the best for aluminium finishing. Dont use beach sand, it's got salt in it. Don't use white river sand either. it just makes lots of dust. Once you've blasted stuff, the surface is very prone to corrosion so if you're not going to paint it straight away, get some elcheapo wd40 from the $2 shop and spray the bits. It washes of easy and keeps the rust bugs out. Neutral

Here is another update on the US90 restoration:

Over the past few months I have purchased alot of NOS parts and I am just about ready to start piecing her back together.

I found a great powdercoater in Adelaide with quick turnaround times (AAA Powdercoaters - Lonsdale,SA) so some of the parts will be going there - anyway - as the frame is too big for the sandblasting cabinet I have and it needed some welding to the fork stop, etc. - it has travelled around a little - and I finally got it back:

So stay tuned - I am going to start painting now......hopefully for a summer ride! (boy I'm wishin!) laughing

I got my cabinet from this store on ebay ( UBlast Pty Ltd ) the handiest piece of equipment in the shed with glass beads.
You are better of buying them local as postage on the heavy bags of them is expensive.
You also need a very good compressor.
Recently I have tried doing some plastice items on the CR that I am restoring by lowering the pressure, it cleans them up beautiful and with a light coat of clear they look new again.
