Well it's on again with a full field of 30 quads set for 2 weeks of hell starting in Argintina and this year finishing in Peru. Again mainly Raptors with a healthy smattering of Renegades a few 700XX's and 690 powered Outlaws.
Unfortunatly we have got controversy before the race has even started as the Patronelli brothers have protested a bunch of Euro quad riders and 8 of them are in negiotations with the officials.

| Latest is that 6 of them have been excluded from the race including Rafal Sonik and Josef Machachek. |

QUOTE ADV RIDER from someone in Argintina
"Problem is quite simple, rules this year establishes max 750 cc for quads.
Machacez quad, and his team uses same tdm 900cc as in previous years, so they are out of rules.
I know some of the argentienan quad drivers, and they were really happy that the 900 were out of the race so more competitve with production quads with mpds.
It happen that these quads are now being reconsidered as leagl, even rules are very clear (I am at the phoen, no rules here, but have it at notebook, will post later).
Even last year winner, Alejandro Patronelli quit to use last year 900cc quad, at took 2010 700cc Raptor.
So I do nor believe it is someone being scared of someone else, just claim to use same rules for all"
750cc Max means no Renegades |

Rules sound pretty clear to me, was there confusion with cc limit as i heard they put this rule in ages ago.
Why would
You turn up with a quad over cc limit? _________________ 2012 sponsors, Working on it. |

Now that I know the details I compleatly agree. Not only was it a bonehead move to enter with a quad over the cc limit but you must state the class and your capacity on the entry form.
2wd - 750cc
4wd - 900cc |

The whole situation is just crappy as it seems the engine capacity doesn't seem to have been an issue. The French Polaris's with the 690 engines have been disqualified and the Euro Raptors with the TDM900 engines are supposed to have been de-tunned to 750cc.
They may be able to start but are still excluded form official standings. |

080.7.1.2 Quads
These machines are based on series production quads, homologated
(allowed to be used on roads open to traffic), according to Group G or H.
which can be modified and/or equipped for Off-Road Cross-Country Rallies
competition.
The main parts: chassis and the engine (cylinder, cylinder head and
crankcase) used must be a standard component, and must be freely available
to the public. These main parts may be modified, with the exception of the
crankcase, but must fulfil the FIM Technical Rules for Cross-Country Rallies
- Quads category.
Please refer to the Technical Rules, Quads, for the capacity authorised per
group. |

I don't have foxtel so SBS it is for me.
Not very clear on the rules but I would imagine that Machaceck and Sonik would have spent alot of time detuning the TDM down to 750cc. The TDM engine is freely available as is the Raptor chassis.
The only thing I can see wrong is that they were not manufactured with those engines, which is open to interpretation on the rules. If that is the case then that really sucks as that would be the end of an era for the big bore twin custom Dakar quads, mine included. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

The whole thing is as clear as mud........both the engine and chassis are "production" and are not modified outside the rules. They seem to define Homoligated as "registered for the road" and they are registered; and if it's not then where is the list of homoligated quads.
shenanigans........ |

11:26 : Declerck and Leconte reinstated to the quad standings.
Following a decision by the race stewards’ committee that demoted 7 non-compliant quads to a third class separate from the quad standings, several riders lodged an appeal. Two of them, Christophe Declerck and Antoine Leconte, succeeded in proving to the race officials that their vehicles were indeed based on standard quad models. As a result, they have been reinstated into the rankings as from stage 2, between Santa Rosa de la Pampa and San Rafael
These 2 outlaws powered by lc4 690 are back in,how i think they are back in quad class is that the polaris outlaw come out powered by ktm from factory and having 690 fitted engine still ktm and under 750 rule, bet they write the rules even tighter for 2013. |

We live in a nanny country , most european countries can get their quad
homoligated so they can ride on the road with full rego, all they have to do is put warning devices, hi-lo beam head lights, same as what 2 wheelers have. |
