Don't be sorry bro, every one has an opinion and beleive it or not I do agree. A small loss for my personal effort is not as important as the greater benefit for the quad sport going to OEM engine and chassis. Clearly this would make the race more accessable and competitive.
Fact is this, the LC4 did not come out in the outlaw just as the TDM did not come out in the Raptor.
I would like more clarity on this if anyone can shed some light? _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

& how r you John whats going 2 happen with the INTERCEPTER
Linc r you doing Condo bud ? What about Smitty will you be OK 2 compete
John can you cum do my fuel at FINK PLEASE lol |
Hey mate, the Interceptor will be used for all the Australian nav rallies and bonus that I don't have to take it down to 750cc which would have been a pain in the ass.
I would still like to do a fuel stop at Finke if time permits. I am flat out committed to doing Dakar and so work is now top priority to help make that happen. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

From what I can understand the issue is paperwork. There is no Homoligation list for quads so the ASO are taking the registration papers as Homoligation. If it was registered with that engine in it then it is Homoligated.
The French Polaris guys have proven (with alot of faxing) that their Outlaws were in fact registered with the LC4-690 engine installed so they are in. The Chech crew cant prove it so they they are out even though they were scrutineered and approved in Europe before they were loaded on the ship for South America.
Machechek has crack 'em so has decided to take his bat and ball and go home. |

Thanks Linc for the updates. I was just watching this afternoon's SBS coverage and didn't understand why some quads were 'disqualified'. After reading this it makes a bit better sense.
Yes, SBS doesn't show a lot of the quads, but I don't have Foxtel (too cheap!). _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Coverage is a bit screwy this year. Day 1 SBS didn't have quads but Foxtel did. Day 2 Foxtel didn't have the cars but SBS did.......We can just be glad it all makes it on to youtube.

You sure about this? Lot's of stories flying around. Does this mean it does not have to be the engine it came out with? Just needs to be "registered" as it is? _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Yep........you have to remember this whole thing came about because of a protest not failing the ASO tech inspection in France. The locals in South America complained and someone in the ASO said fair enough. The ASO got it wrong.
From there we have had a lot of back tracking from the ASO, firstly they could continue in another class then they could continue without clasification then some were let back in the race as they rightly pointed out there was no Homoligation list for quads so how could anyone prove if there quad was OEM or not. That would make all the quads disqualified.
Last year Husqvarna bikes could not be entered as they wern't on the Homoligation list for bikes.
Polaris comes with a KTM engine and China Quad comes with a Honda engine.........The Raptor engines are made under licence in Italy. Without a Homoligation list nothing can be proved.
A compleatly arbitrary decision was made in that if the quad was registered with the engine entered for the Dakar then it is OEM.......The Machecek Raptors would then be "Machecek Raptors" manufactured by Machecek from parts sourced from all over.
The French guys could prove it and the Chech guys could not. Machecek's quads are listed and entered as Yamaha's.
If the road rego papers had the engine number of the engine as entered in the Dakar then it is "stock".
The whole thing is BS and I'm sure it will be cleared up by next year so dont get your hopes up. The Maggs-850 is out.

Been watching Dakar on SBS every day so far and to the their credit they do present a Quad Catagory story everyday and also present the top three runners. In fact they now have quads on par with the trucks as far as presentation goes.
I would imagine that the request to email ASO, and ask them to present quads better than they have in the past, has worked.
If you are one of the people who has e mailed them about getting better coverage for quads then well done! The quad catagory deserves it. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Totally agree, SBS has definitely stepped up their quad coverage this year.
This is one awesome event! They go from 50C to -8C the next day. The scenery is awesome and the locals are out there supporting the race. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |
