a new event has just been announced, its a rally but like a cross country, so the need for big navigation setups is minimal

Hi Shane,
As discussed last week all information about an upcoming event we have planned hope to see all you guys there!!!
please call if you have any questions!!!

Dear Quad Bikers / side by side Buggy's!,

I would like to take this chance to provide you with some information about the hopefully upcoming event we are looking to hold.
We are in the process of a course set out to hold a cross country rally event. We are hoping to run the event as an AMSAG based event who will fully insure all riders included in entry fee’s. The event will be held in a small NSW country town called Carinda. We have a large backing and support from the Carinda community and they are more than willing to help this event succeed as this is a small community driven town local business have struggled in recent years. An event like this would help to increase the towns financial flow.
The event will be held over 2 days on the 16th & 17th of June 2012. It will cover a total of 600 competitive kilometres, 140 transport kilometres & the event will stay within a 35km radius of the Carinda township. All services, overnight stops and camping will be held in a designated area walking distance to the event office and catering facility's. All scrutineering will also be held in at the same venue.
The event will be open for entries from auto’s 2wd & 4wd, buggies & quad’s. all vehicle’s will need to have at least an unregistered vehicle permit, vehicles will need to have turn signals head light and tail lights (this will all be put into more detail in the supplementary regulations). We are hoping to have around 30 auto and buggy competitors and around 10 quad competitors (hopefully a lot more!!!). As this is the first year of the event we are not expecting a high number of entries. The 2012 event will be a learning experience for the Carinda community and a much larger event will be planed for 2013.
Ambulance and paramedic services will be available for the entire event, there will also be an appointed and qualified safety officer on the event committee. A crucial part of the event committee is a local road crew director who will be available to respond and get to an injured competitor on a special stage using local knowledge to ensure fast medical services to the competitor.
The event will not only have a road book like normal Cross Country and Safari type events but will also have all major intersections arrowed for safety. This will help eliminate collisions, crossing or reversing on the special stages. This will also help us to gain a larger field from the off-road racing community who do not use trip meters. for quads this means that you will be able to run this event with out the huge out lay of navigational equipment.
Local camping grounds and hotel accommodation is available in Carinda but as most race teams are self sufficient these are not a necessity to the event. All meals will be available in a package set by the local community to cover all the weekend. all money raised will go into the town for funding as required. The local store and service station will have most items that will be needed by the crews.
We believe that we have most items that are required for the event. A committee has been formed and we are organised to handle all aspect's of the event.
We look forward to putting this event on the map! If you have anything that will help us make a better event please don’t be shy!

Dean George

OK, I have made a few phone calls and this is the what I know so far;

This is put together by a group of desert racers but is the first event that they have orgainised.

The town is right behind the event with the catering provided by the locals. Roast dinners, breky and lunch included in entry.

You do not need a service crew! Every stage clover leafs out of town and comes back so you can service and re fuel your self.

Crew never need to move camp or leave.

The longest stage is 90km so a standard tank could do every stage or come damn close.

They will be running cars, buggies SXS and quads.

So far, and after talking to the guys, quads will start 20 to 30 minutes behind the last car. There are more benefits to this than negatives. Safety the main one. This also means that the course will be fairly cut in which will help the guys with minimal nav experience.

You DO NOT NEED a nave set up. The course will have arrows at major intersections although route notes will be provided, you do not need to use them.

All up entry + AMSAG membership + insurance = $500 but this does include catering.

For a 600km + race including food it represents good value.

They also have 3 quad classes and have 33 quads from expressions of interest.

Sounds great!

Great to hear! Nav events and a real gift to quads so we should ride and support where we can. The more the better!
