People have asked about road legal quads a few times on this forum. and the general answer has been that it is not possible...
I may have found a short term loop hole... I received my renawal papers for the quad (for rec rego) recently, on the letter, it stated that I could not drive the vehicle until I renewed the rego.. It further stated that I could drive the vehicle to the nearest repairer/ rego inspection station, and then to the nearest registration office.. (or words to that effect)..
No, I'm not going to try it, but it would be an interesting legal situation if one were caught and chose to challenge it. |

I don't believe you would have a case as a pre-rego inspection is not required to be carried out by an inspection station, although you may be able to argue the nearest repairer clause.
Interesting how the last clause almost invites you to ride to the nearest registry to pay the rego |

| when i was at the rta last there was a guy next to me who just brought a motor bike over from america and was trying to get rego for it and the lady behind the counter said you can take it to the nearest authorized mechanic and she read out a list to him of all the places that he was aloud to ride it to. then she said the only other place is to the rta... my rta is about 10km away i would not want to risk riding my quad on pennant hills road dodging semi's.. but thats just me |
