So mart, when are you digging up the pics from the ones our fathers had back in the 80's?
Some of you may know that both my father and marts father had this exact setup in the 80's for the under 200cc flat track class...
They creamed that class and also my father used to enter it in the over 250 class and get 3rds I think... Greenhuman won with his 450 monster but this setup could beat most air cooled 250r's on the track...

I've got a vid somewhere... More to the point, where's the VCR lol

I don't know why Honda didn't think of it...

Not sure if i have photos of them builds or not.I dunno about my ol boy winning much i think he was more of a cruiser than a racer lol. Theres footage of the cr125 trike on those trikin vids youve got.i also belive theres one certain race was of a day dad lent it to someone and he hit the wall and bent it lol. Also the footage of johns 480 screamer maybe we could get him to go into his archives and dig up some photos john??
I know your ol boy will like this one itll bring some memories back for him not to mention hell give it all its got knowing him lol.

Yeh itll slow down for awhile now but wont be forgotten cheers guys

I had a CR450 engine in a 1st generation '82 ATC250R. I only raced this one time at Cameron Park. I ended up on crutches for five weeks after it vibrated my rear brakes to pieces and I hit the tyre wall. One of the 8mm triple clamp bolts punctured my knee as I went over the bars and it pushed a perfectly round piece of leather into my knee which got seriously infected.
All the rest of my trike racing was on '83, '84 and '85 ATC250R's and 200X's except once or twice on a 175 Tri-moto with an IT175 top end. Ever tried to race a bar stool? That's a Tri-moto. There was a couple of times with Tri-Z 250 with a brand new YZ250 engine. Nothing else I raced was as fast as my air cooled 250's though.
It was Jim Sherrit who hit the fence at Raymond Terrace coming on to the main straight on your old mans trike, Mart. I can still see the 30 foot smear of petrol on the wall.
I remember when I was laid up your father hit the wall at Heddon Greta speedway and broke his wrist and Ken crashed that night as well and did his shoulder I think it was. We all went to McDonalds a few days later and we looked like WW3 veterans with crutches, slings and plaster.
Trike racing was fun.

Bit of an update guys,
I got out in the shed last night for awhile and got a little bit more done.Firstly made up some mounts and tacked em in position.Secondly started polishing the durablue axle that i dug out from the parts boxes under the house lol few runs on the bench wire wheel and shes comin up real good.Next was to tackle the forks that as you can prob see in the photos are quite bent lol (i wouldve hated bein on it when it hit what ever it hit lol) a couple of v blocks and my press later and they are now straight. i have the colour scheme worked out im goin for ktm orange frame silver swinger etc and some chrome here and there.I ordered a set of white rear guards and a white 86 250r front guard last.so white guards orange frame silver and chrome with a black seat with abit of orange in it is what im going for.Im going to make a jig up for the swinger hopefully tonight and not sure but maybe make an alloy swinger for it or might just keep it steel.I just really hate the early 200x swingers they look sh%t lol
Well heres a few photos anyway.Hopefully i might get a little more done tonight.

Thanks richie,
Yeh i think (well hope lol)the colour scheme will look good.my plastics got shipped today so all white rear & front white tank.as for the shrouds im going to have a go at plastic vaccum forming the same as aussie used to do.so ill make a custom set for it because of the radiators. These will also be white.then yeh orange frame silver swinger etc. I cant wait i just wanna get back out there an keep building it.
Im just really tossing up an alloy swinger or just keep it standard i dunno.
Black an orange 84 sounds real good mate.
Yeh im really hoping to have it done for 2013 aus day.

I don't know much about making swingers but if your going with the stock rear shock just keep the original swinger maybe cut n extend Wink or go all out alloy swinger with modern shock laughing
Some of these old style cr shrouds would look pretty good .. You might be able just bolt some on by shaving them abit or if you really keen just make some custom like you said
85 Cr125 (my first dike bike was one of these)

88 cr125

98 cr125

Slightly:
Yeh mate im kinda leaning towards doin an ally swinger for it. Kez(wife) & bronte ( new daughter) are doin great. I really do have a whple new respect for women after goin through all this and we had a fairly straight forwsrd labour. Cheers for askin mate.

Bit more of an update guys,Pretty much got the flywheel/pullstarter setup done.I had to machine a spacer ring over the top of the flywheel that the cage mounts to.Than made a alloy spacer plate that sits inside the lip of the flywheel casing (inplace of flywheel cover)than the pull starter mounts to that. Please dont pick on my milling attempt(its no ylwgtr job lol)but i had to do it all by hand and trying to follow curves bends and lines by hand milling isnt as easy as i thought lol.But all in all the lip fits snug and actually works just as i hoped.Heres a few photos.
by the way troy(ylwgtr) did offer to build me a billet one of these very nice guy.but i really wanted to have a crack at it lol.
I just ordered all new bearings swing arm, wheels, axle, etc and a custom black and orange seat cover last night cant wait till they all start coming in also am bidding on a pipe at the moment so shes all underway. Also i decided im goin the alloy swinger i pulled all the old swinger apart and started jigging it up ready for an all alloy one laughing
cheers guys.
