stolen from another forum. Rumour has it the culprits are well known bike enthusiasts in the area. (no details)
POLICE tracking stolen motorcycles in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie believe they have cracked a major criminal operation, raiding two houses and seizing motorcycles and parts yesterday.
The raids, executed simultaneously on houses in Charlestown and Mayfield, follow the arrest of a juvenile on Thursday by officers from Strike Force Blue Wren.
He was charged yesterday after detectives raided his home in Charlestown at 3.40pm. They seized motorcycle parts, electrical equipment and home entertainment equipment.
At the same time, police carried out a search warrant on a house in Mayfield, where they discovered a number of motorcycle parts and a vehicle believed to be stolen.
Lake Macquarie detectives established Strike Force Blue Wren to investigate recent break and enter incidents, mainly involving the theft of motorcycles, that had occurred in the Hunter.
As they investigated, police found what they believed was a major criminal network, involving the theft of motorcycles and the sale and distribution of their parts.
The Herald reported this month that police were stepping up investigations into a spate of motorcycle thefts in the Hunter, including the theft of three bikes and a family car from a Killingworth house.
Other thefts were reported at Thornton, Cameron Park, Macquarie Hills and Cooranbong.
Police were unable to confirm which incidents were the work of the gang targeted by yesterday's raids. Detectives expect further arrests and raids to occur in the coming days.
The Motorcycle Council of NSW says motorcycles are a target for thieves because of their comparatively small size and weight, and the lack of registration requirements for off-road bikes.
They are also easily able to be broken up for parts because they have no way of being identified other than registration plates. _________________ 08 Raptor 700SE

you can't be with NRMA then, they were total C$%ts when my bike gear recently got stolen. Pricks tried to claim everything was bike accessories (which has a $500 max limit). I argued that it was sporting good for weeks. Finally they agreed to disagree.
who has everyone got their bikes insured with? _________________ 08 Raptor 700SE

POLICE RECOVER DOZENS OF MOTORBIKES ON TRAIL OF THIEVES
Police believe they are closing in on a group of busy trailbike thieves, with dozens of machines recovered in a raid. Newcastle City specialist operations group swooped on a North Arm Cover property last Friday. They believe it is one of several hideouts where stolen machines are held before being offloaded.
They seized more then 20 trailbikes, three quadbikes, a $65,000 caravan, two trailers and an assortment of trailbike equipment, tools and generators.
Officers raided a Mayfield property on Monday night in a related operation. Although they are yet to lay charges , arrests appear imminent.
Several hundred trail bikes have been stolen accross the Hunter since the beginning of 2009. "It would be fair to say there has been well over 100 (trailbikes stolen) in the Newcastle area alone, let alone counting Lake Macquarie and the rest of the Hunter," crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Brad Tayler said yesterday.
Police are working to identify owners of the seized trail bikes. _________________ 08 Raptor 700SE

I hope they find mine that was stolen from Charlestown. After the quad was stolen we got insurance with NRMA, then our house was broken into. NRMA are still invistigating. They dont like paying up thats for sure. _________________
