this should be in the quad section but i thought as though im mostly about trikes id shove it here for you guys to see.I really love my 500 twostrokes and i know its not a trike but owning 2 CRE500's,1 kx500,1x klx450r with kx500 engine and a crf450x with a cr500 engine i just had to have an LT500R.I bought this 87 model years ago on ebay for $2200 and whilst getting my KXT250 down from the loft i looked at the neglected old bus and thought its time to restore the poor old thing. We forked it down stripped the body work off and gave it a pressure clean for starters.
I cleaned the carb and whammo it fired up,i ran it down the road a couple of times then we stripped it down.
I thought id get stuck into the motor first. As you can see someones been happy with the yellow paint, they have painted over the engine complete, bolts and all.....i hate this sort of stuff,so i stripped it down and blasted the cases, refinished them in the original oven baked 2 pack satin blue and rezinc plated all the bolts and studs.
The ring gap was huge so ive bored the cylinder to .5mm from .25 oversize.
I will also oversize the head studs and ditch the headgasket and tunnel some oring grooves into it,remachine the squish and tickle the ports a touch.
Ive also bought new genuine gaurds, decals, handlebars, ignition switch, full set of cables, tool kit and retaining strap, balljoints, tierod ends and swingarm
Im still waiting for the rod kit to turn up but ive dunny assembled the case's.....heres what a brand new lt500r bottom end looked like in 87 Smile

Thanx for posting that. I like these old 2 stroke quads. I'll probably own one too one day. Ive always had a soft spot for the ol' LT's and TRX's.

glad you guys like them SmileI have about 30 bikes in total (yes i know its a lot, infact sometimes i forget who's got what, and where ive left what where!)
The white 500 does seem to command respect where ever it goes,i sure get some strange looks sitting at the lights on that animal. It is a real blast to ride, dropping massive stands any gear you like!Ive tickled the ports a bit so its got a bit more go than a standard cr500 engine however its really well behaved(apart from the big two stroke power surge/hunt at steady revs on the freeway,i combat this on long rides by rolling the throttle on and off)fuel consumption is quite good actually.Last big ride was from the melbourne airport to phillip island which is about 160klm,i got there on 1 tank of juice (10.4lts) i think thats pretty good for a competition 500cc twostroke single

yes the crf/cr hybrid is resistered with that engine in it.
I first saw those little ksr80's when i was living in japan years ago....they were only for the domestic market over there.I bought 3 in about 3 years ago,i gave one to one of my mates as a gift and i still have the other 2.
one of them is in really good condion, the other one is a bit clappered so i will tear it down, put the frame in the motojig, and make an alloy frame (this vehicle will now become what they call an "ICV") this will allow me to register it.
I have 2 choices of engines for this bike, kx125 90 model or a 2007 kx100 engine.....i have both the engines with all the things to run them....help me decide!
