| i myself never run anything but egv plugs in any of my twostrokes.....much better performance. Its the first thing i do with any bike i buy.So on that id recommend a b9egv,b9ev or b9eg for your 84 model.Ive NEVER fouled a plug in my whole lifetime, sure ive had mechanical failures/ blocked jets/crap in the carb but not once been let down by these plugs |

The plugs ylwgtr is refering to are ngk mate, just instead of br or b9/8es
they are the thin tip ngk br b9/8egv.So for example if it was the heat range 8 you were after which by memory the airys are the 8's, you would be lookin for br8egv pretty sure the r stands for resistor by memory. They are a little more expensive but in my opinion like ylwgtr said they are worth it.Then of course you have the iridium's which do seem to work really well.Ive managed to foul a few in my long hard fight with my old airy back in the day although it wasnt a fuel fowling problem it was an electrical fault by memory. _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

Skip on the R in the part number, you will have weaker spark with resister types. The resister stops electrical interference to other electronics. they started to be enforced in the 80's but it is at a cost to the plugs performance.
As for 8 vs 9, 8 is standard. Sometimes when you increase the performance of an engine the internal temperatures increase to the point where the ideal operating temp of the standard plug is exceeded and you need the higher range. Note that a higher range does not give better performance, it stops your plug from melting. Google for pics on how to tell when your heat range is wrong. |
