I'd replace it, nothing worse than a niggling electrical problem.

The bolts are all messed up
Supposed to be for a 81-82 .. found a sticker that said kit is for a 81-84 ,some fit that are the same acroos both models but alot of key pieces dont
Also found a bag labled waterpump  if this kit really is for 81-84 i seem to be missing a water pump on both

Was thinking of not putting the fork gaitors back on and running some fork seal savers instead.. what you guys think..
I like the look of bare forks but the gaitors will keep the old school look and offer abit more protection
(Fork seal savers are neoprene covers that slide or velcro over the fork seal normally cable tied on also)

I like the big blue ones on a red trike but I went for none in my blue 83 as it gives the impression of more bling. The big ones look great when in good condition.

Finally got the seals
The genuine Honda part is 52144-KR8-005 it's for a XR400 96 to 04 it's the replacement for the original atc250 one ..
This one part has held up the resto ..

Nearly there 
To do:
Pop dent out of tank and repaint and add stickers
Rebuild front brake calliper (it has seized since being off the bike )
New coil
New plastics
Recover seat and fit new fibre glass seat pan
Refit carbi
New front sprocket and chain
Fit red LED rear light

Haven't touched this in a long while.. Busy with other things and hand surgery
Last time I worked on it I Snapped another bolt on top of the intake boot when I was removing it sooooo engine will have to come out so I can get it out properly 
Just been Gathering parts..
