Back in the early 90s when living in VIC I rode this guys trike --- I didn’t know what model frame it was but he had fitted a Yamaha IT490 I think or could have been a 465 Smile
That thing went like there was no tomorrow Surprised
Being a larger guy I could keep the front down and wind the thing out (loved it) Very Happy
It wasn’t the easiest thing to stop at speed (found out the hard way a couple of times) Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I am in the market now for a cheep roller to build a similar project (cant wait)

thanks daniel

Honestly save your time and money I have put 2 it490 motors in watercooled frames absolute "profanity removed" ..those dam things vibrate your teeth out

and not very fast a good ported 250r will out drag it.
And as for a cr500 I have done 3 or even four of those conversons .same again a good 250r with a 350 pv cylinder will beat you in a drag and not vibrate to hell.
If you can pick up a cr 500 motor for $1000 I would put one in but you will sell it..lol
i even put vibration mounts on the motor and it still vibrated my fillings out
If your running cr500 alky with all the "profanity removed" your max out put will be around 75 hp (and that will take you 3 years to get that much)
a good 350 pv motor running petrol will make you around 60 -65 hp
and not to mention the gearbox is set up for a motorcross bike not a trike
I have done 1 cr500 84 motor air cooled and boy that thing was fast but you didnt want to ride it...lol that was in an old 84 model 250r frame
but never the less it was fun

Hey Ash,
How come these engines all vibrate in the trike frames yet its not a problem in their bike frames?

Its all to do with the counterbalancer .
And on the cr 500 cant put my finger on it but it has to do with vibration waves being able to escape alot eaisier in a bike being less contact to the ground and taller I even put the vibration mounts of a cr500 (head stock) it that didnt even help,Just let me say that it is very bareable but long rides you fingures and hands tingle

Its all to do with harmonics. I did the first big engine conversion back in '83. It was a CR450 motor and vibration was a big issue. Vibrated my rear brakes apart one race and I ended up in a tyre wall and 6 weeks on crutches. Even the 250 moto-x engines shake. I was sitting at a start line next to a bloke with an RM250 engine in his quad, he gave it rev and his handlebar cross bar and pad fell on the ground. The ends of his bars were just a blur.

well you could always rubber mount the engine with just a rubber washer on each mounting point of the motor

it could work

yes, Yes, YES, YES!. that's zacary what I meant. Only improvement needed is to do it with Honda bits instead of those inferior brand bits. Just kidding, my road toy's a yammy. laughing
