let me for a moment be the devils advocate and remind the riders intending on drag racing this october long weekend that NATIONAL PARKS knows this forum exists, will be there in force this long weekend, and are looking for ways to prohibit quads from the beach in the first instance. now im not too keen on riding the dunes myself BUT!!! its the only legal public access area in the state to ride, and so many of the recreational quad riders in NSW live in and about Newcastle . so Stockton is their local riding spot. Dont ruin it for all just because you need to have an unofficial pissing contest. find a bit of private land( not the sand mine at stockton either) and hold an event, properly. the mud drags seem to be the perfect platform for this.
i just dont want to see the nat parks shut us out all together.

Raptmat,
I'm sure evryone understands what your saying about how delicate the situtaion is with the NPWS but seriuos..... a pissing competition... Weren't you out there at Easter supporting the event or as you put it.. supporting the pissing competition. All i can see is a group of people just having a little fun with there machine. There's no need to bag the event. As i read the forums about Easter.... It was a great day and i reckon it would be hard to find someone who didn't enjoy it. So if you haven't got something good to say about the event on which people who are dedicated to the machines are trying to support and built a platform for the future events...... i really don't think we need that type of criticism. |

Don't dump on rapmat for what he has said. He has a point.
The National Parks are comming on strong & it is a well known fact that they are the fun police. The drags that you guys organise have no official backing or organisation. This means that there is also no insurance. If anything goes wrong what do you think NP will do. It will be there excuse to call all quad riders lunatics that are a danger to everyone around them & slap a full ban on us on Stockton. These are the same rocket scientists that want to jam quads, fishos & 4WD vehicles into a narrow strip on the beach. Real smart on the safety side of life.
Not to say that I don't enjoy the drags. I think they are a great idea in the right setting. I went for a look last time as a lot of people did. I just think that 1 day of all out unoficial fun could kill Stockton for the future. I back onto the dunes & if we are locked out I can't do anything but sell all of my quads & go back to 2 wheels. The dunes are all we have to ride legally on.
Just my 2 cents worth. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

I was out there myself in my 4wd watching, and it was a awesome day and theres nothing better than riding with hundreds of othere quads, But building a platform for future events illegally isnt the way to do it. Rapmat has received the same email i got from National Parks and they got ALL emails from this website, So someone is watching.
I wouldnt want to be the person organising such an event and there is a accident and someone dies or seriously injured, which is HIGHLY POSSIBLE. I agree with Rapmat, maybe the Mud drags is the place to get these events going !!!

Even better idea, how bout one of these businesses that profit from the large following of quads in newcastle and throughout NSW step up and take on the task of organising and managing LEGAL SAND DRAGS,
abeit through charging entry fee's, numbers, fences etc aswell as getting the approval of NPWS and or whatever aboriginal groups...
THIS will boost the sport enormously in my opinion, it has been proven time and time again that massive groups turn up to these events... As opposed to MX and flat track events in NSW
I just cant beleive not one company has taken it apon themselves to do this yet, or have they?? |

Tell me where you can ride any unregestered vehicle in a nation park in Australia legaly .
Stockton thats where .do you no how long before it becomes walking trails only ...well my guess is not long ....
We are all registered and allowed to be there..
what we do up there is everyones buisness,
the speed limit is a factor also the area in which we ride ,apart from that just wave to the rangers and police with one finger as you RIDE BY doing no more than 10kph..lol
We could always go up and down the beach and scare the bajuses out of the fisherman and be a real pain....
The drags are held on private property (toll sands) I seriously doubt the rangers or police have permision to be there themselves ...treaspass comes to mind dont like there chances of booking you and enforceing it in a court.not that I would like to try.
Anyone keen to move the ride day out to the entrance to the larger dunes area ????????????????????????A little more legal for those who wear skirts |

every time i go for a ride i am always worried about getting cought riding, as most places are illegal!!!!! we all wish it wasnt that way. we should all obide by the rules of stocko that way we wont be locked out for life. I am not saying that i am the model quad rider and you should follow my example as i will ride in places that are illegal and bend a few of the rules, as some of the guys on the forum said try to be a little discret about it. I will show up at stock and i will ride with the boys and i will bend the rules to an extent.
we will go there and have fun... |

It pretty much revolves around insurance ,and who will take responsability if someone is hurt.
We should form a club in NSW and get enough numbers to be able to pay the insurance fees (Thousands in insurance ) to MA,Wormi,Port Stephens council ,ATV club or who ever is to take on the responsability of the riders . The more numbers the cheaper it is individualy .There is a Stockton Bight Clean up Day comming up on 21/10/07 with free BBQ ,we as the ATV riders should be part of this and show them we want to be responsable and look after the environment .This would be a great starting point .
At the moment there is Rubbish ,bottles ...left at camp sites,Fences cut down that they erect to protect the vegetation and there is general neglect to the area.
As the NSW Quad Delegate along with Barry Ashenhurst and Paul Nixon I offerd to meet with Wormi and Port Stephens councils Management team for a casual meeting as per there request ,this meeting will be the starting point of what will be required by all parties concerned ,it is schedualed for late October/November 07.
If you have any good ideas that may help and that we could present at this meeting your input would be much appreciated, you can email me at
len@atvnrg.com.au . _________________ Cheers

Hi to All,
I have been trying for some time now to organise a offical event for quads to drag race and its been a nightmare.
But the other day i spoke to a chap by the name of Steve NPWS in regards to holding a event out at stockton.
Steve was very helpful and understanding and knows excatly whats going on with quads at stocko and was not in any way deing that we need to adress the issue of quads at stocko.
He has forwarded me a application form to hold a event at stockton and we need to provide public liabilty policy of 5million to hold aevent out there and a few other bits and pieces.
NPWS are not the problem i belive they will give us a fair go and make some sort of compramise and give us a shot.
I do belive and see the potential of working in with NPWS and trying to get some sort of legal event organised.
Yes Toll sands is private property.
So there for i have being calling around and trying to organise other places to race till we can get stockton is sorted.
I have contacted several other venues and 2 are prepared to give us a go.
Yes it is legal and yes they are is insured.
And 1 other thing the speed limit for all vechiles including quads at stockton is 40kph. _________________ FOUR STROKE WARS CHAMPIONS USA 2009

best and most responsible idea so far len, this is what i ment, we need a business/club or whatever to step up and take this problem on,
I think we all agree we dont want to ride "illegally", for the most part people do the right thing (as best we can).
Perhaps if we could get good numbers at the clean-up, (on bikes?? with rego etc (minus blinkers and the other trivial parafonalia)) this can take some of the stigma away and form some better relationships between us and NPWS etc??? |

Good advice....the offer is there guys to form a sub committy within our club to address this issue you only need 3 people for the committy and you then have a community based club.
Dont forget we are MA Affiliatted and you might even have your first legal race...
Zak sorry I havnt called you bud but been bizzy.....we need to talk about that other venue.... _________________ 04 Polaris Predator 500 with mods

| I am sorry but I have lost all faith in goverment parties , we are doomed and no they will not alloy an organized event esp racing where people get hurt .....sorry ....but feel free to prove me wrong ....I will put in $1000 to hold an event a ride day where we have jumps drags and a circular track to race around with prizes all we need is permission or we just meet with mates and do it on a smaller scale which is still legalllll... |

That sounds like what goes on at a MX meeting anyway...most comps are a drag race to the first corner, jumps & slides, then a drag to the next corner... ....on a smaller scale, that could be whats happening at Cessnock mud/GRASS drags. _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |
