Posted: Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:51 pm Post subject: GROUP BUY - NOT PWR, Aussie Desert Coolers GOOD NEWS 23/12 |
 |
|
Today i looked into buying myself PWR Radiators for my 86R, part No. PWR5360,5361 and uncovered some weirdness.
PWR, Australian manufacturer, has only ever exported these to the US were they are readily available for a retail of $499US the pair.($567AU)
I rang and spoke to Drew, the sales manager for PWR Australia and he informed me that though they have never sold them here and are not in the Oz pricelist, they do make them in Oz and export to the US so therefore I can purchase them locally direct from him. He said they would cost $350AUea plus gst. Total $770AU.
I asked if he would be interested in a group buy and he said he would offer the following discount structure.
2pairs for extra 5% off = Total $731.50AU
5 pairs for extra 10% off = Total $700.00AU
10 pairs for extra 15% off = Total $654.50AU
While writting this, i decided to check what US supplier jlatvproducts would do them for and have forwarded a request for pricing delivered to Oz. They Only had TRX250R listed but this has the same retail as the ATC250R version.
JL sells this for $395.95US ($100+ off retail) plus $22US freight to Australia. After buying off these guys a few times, freight generally is a little dearer than the online quoter plus there is a few dollars for insurance, so lets call it $50US delivered.
Today ebay is showing $1.00AU buys $0.88US
Therefore i can buy Australian made radiators out of the states and delivered to my door for $506.76AU.
WTF is going on PWR? How can it possibly be cheaper to send half way across the world and back again then sell locally? are you just profiteering?
This post was to be about getting numbers for a group buy but now i am questioning wether i want to buy this Australian made product at all.
Well now thats off my chest, anyone else care to comment? _________________

Ok then, I will. that is "profanity removed" up dude!
Looks like you may have to run it as an air cooled. should last as long as yours usually does anyhow! LMAO ( I only found out that this means Laughing My Arse Off yesterday and I am stoked I have got a chance to already use it). |

I,ve done a bit more homework and it turns out a mate of mine who i did my mechanics trade with years ago is a major PWR dealer through his business blacktrackperformance.com . I have emailed him to see if he can better PWR pricing as PWR would only sell at retail so as not to upset its resellers.
Quantity buy should still apply so if anybody else is interested, let me know and stay tuned.
I was also thinking of maybe of asking the question of a mixed quantity buy, as its not like there going to sell these things here everyday. So if there is anyone else with other models, let me know.
All of their motorcycle radiators are the same price as they are all similar in size. _________________

keep us posted on price,
sounds like pwr aren't really interested in selling direct to the Australian market, give them another call and tell them how much cheaper you can get them from the US.

Update.
JLATV (USA) replied back to my email today.
They will sell me the radiators for $399.95US
Freight was a little higher than expected @ $65.00US
And last but not least insurance came to $6.00US
For a grand total of $470.95US
Turn this into Aussie dollars to get $535.17
Thats a saving of $234.83 over buying locally.
if anyone is definite about purchasing at this price or better, please let me know as i wish to order mine and we may still get a better deal for multiple. It would at least get the freight down.
I will also contatc PWR again to see if they will do something to match this.
Over and Out

Copy of email i sent to PWR today:
Hi Drew,
I spoke to you a week and bit ago in regards to purchasing new radiators for my 1986 Honda ATC250R (part no.PWR5360, 5361).
You informed me that though they have not been sold locally in the past, they were available for $350ea plus gst. ($770)
We also discussed the possibility of a quantity buy.
2pairs for extra 5% off = Total $731.50AU
5 pairs for extra 10% off = Total $700.00AU
10 pairs for extra 15% off = Total $654.50AU
I made a few calls to dealers, as I know you can only quote retail so as you are not competing with them, but unfortunately for me (and you) no body seems overly keen to sell this product of yours.
I emailed your Newcastle dealer listed on your website (to his new address as the business has changed names) offered him the opportunity for a multiple sale, all he had to do was pick up the calculator, then the phone but also no reply.
One email to JLATV products in the USA and I can have 1 radiator set delivered to my door for $535.17AUD including freight, insurance etc.
That saves me $234.83 over buying here and still $119.33 better than me drumming up 10 sales for you.
Sorry but I don’t get how this item can be made here, sent half way around the world and back, a couple of companies add their mark up and it is still so much cheaper than here.
Are you profiteering in your home market? It’s not like the US items are made in China so you can use the Australian labour cost as an excuse.
Or do Australian resellers enjoy a huge margin that they are not willing to pass on to the end user. (if they wanted to sell anything at all)
Please accept my apology if I have sounded a bit harsh, its just that as Australians we are use to sending our hard earned dollars over seas for aftermarket parts because that’s generally where they are made. Finally when an Aussie company does a great job of making a product, it is a frustrating slap in the face that we are still forced to shop overseas to get a reasonable deal on that product.
I am waiting in hope that you reply to me with a reasonable solution.
Thanks in advance for your consideration,
Brett Coxon. _________________

PWR Have "profanity removed" on us again.
After placing the order, they have turned around and decided that price was for each side, plus there would be a $14 per side freight charge.
This is amazing when in the US the price of the set is the same as the single in the TRX.
Sorry guys i guess the deal is off.
If you are still keen, try
www.jlatvproducts.com
But personally i don't think PWR deserves the business.
