UPDATE ON DEAN POKE

We have spoken to Di ( Deans partner ) and she has requested we let people know how Dean is going.

Dean has a broken ankle and a pretty messed up knee. 2 fractures to his vertabrae and a fractured sternum. At the moment Dean is suffering from Compartment Syndrome so they have operated on his leg to release the swelling. The are planning to operate today to pin and plate his ankle and fix his knee so we will keep you posted on the outcome.
At this stage Dean is not allowed to move so is pretty well on his back and in alot of pain but is having a good dose of drugs to help with the pain. he will be staying at the Canberra Hospital for at least 2 weeks.

Di can be contacted on 0412 541774 for those who would like to send their best to Dean.

We will try and endeavour to keep everyone informed of his progress.

Cheers
Trudy and Rob Van Vliet

Man.
None of that sounds really good.

Best of luck with the recovery Dean.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Dean.

You certainly gave a few people a fright, especially Rick Beer.

Hope you're up and about soon.

UPDATE - Friday 14th March 10.15am
Dean was operated on last night and they pinned his ankle. He is back in theatre at this moment because the compartment syndrome has come back so they are slicing his muscle to release the pressure.
Knee still not operated on - hopefully in the next couple of days if all the swelling goes down. Di has said Dean is in alot of pain.
Di is coming home for weekend and will be returning to Canberra early next week as she still has to organise Cooper with school etc.

Dean is at Canberra Public Hospital for those who would like to send a card.

UPDATE 19.13.08

Spoke to Dean last night and he sounded in good spirits.

Still trying to get the Compartment Syndrome under control so has had quite a few visits to surgery but the knee still not operated on. Dean is still flat on his back and not allowed to move. I believe he had a good sponge bath yesterday and got his hair washed and thoroughly enjoyed it.
( Now Now - no rude thoughts please !!!)

Di back up in Canberra and they still dont know when Dean will be transfered back to Melbourne.

Cheers

Hi Guys - Dean Update

Just spoke to Di again and Dean still up in the Canberra Hospital.
So far they have closed the incisons in his leg with skin grafts in the hope that they have the compartment syndrome under control. If all goes well they will hopefully operate mid next week on his knee.
They are taking more xrays of his spine tomorrow so Dean is still flat out on his back unable to move. With time and rest hopefully the sternum and spine will heal on its on.
Di is flying up and down trying to keep tabs on the business and Cooper who is staying with great friends.

Rob and I intend to go up this Monday (31.03.0Cool for a visit so if anyone has anything they would like to send to Dean please drop it off and will give it to him.

Also The QRCV will be taking up a collection at the State 8 -Colac Race meet. Donations of any amount Im sure will be greatly received and will assist in the expenses that the family are experienceing with all the travel etc.

Cheers

hey Trud just another thought also

i can prob get some things from a few sponsors here and im also sure Adam would be kind enough to throw something in aswell as anyone else

why cant we run a raffle at the colac round aswell as run donations?? with all proceeds to Dean and his family?? we have done similar raffles at all our local club days here with diff prizes all year

just a quick thought let me know if interested will rustle some things up for prizes

thats a great idea.!!

if anyone can come on board asap for donations for raffle prizes that would be a bonus.

We need them at the Colac Round on the 13th April or maybe we can start collecting now and draw the raffle at the 2nd round of the Tri-state series in May. That way all the riders who were present at the 1st round who saw the accident would be present and feel part of it as well.
What are your thoughts ?
Cheers

Hard having people working one week on one week off to get stuff done. Smile but its in the process, and hope to have it finished and off to you soon.

Hey Trud

Even though im only new to this quad riding addiction. it really bums me out to know people are in need. I work fo Patties Foods, we make Four'n'20 pies among other brands. I spoke to the girl who does dontaions and sponsorships this morning. She advised that to get a raffle prize some one needs to fill out a request form. I have it in my e-mail inbox at the moment. To get a prize donated it needs to be filled out with an attached cover letter explaining what its for. Who do I forward it to to get filled out? I will be at the Colac round so If its approved I can bring the prize with me.

Cheers

Lugz
