Had a heap of old rusty sockets and spanners. Soaked them in vinegar overnight and they look 80% new. Very little scrubbing was required. I should have took some before & after pics but I'm lazy. Best $2 I've spent in awhile.

another thing that i use & works well is mollasses
just soak them in if for a ew days give them a wash they look like new
its just a bit messy
