This is from atvpod.com.au

25/Oct/2008 - By, Trevor Hedge
Port Hedland dynamo Ryan Lancaster has dominated the opening race of the 2008 Australian Quad Championship at the north-west coastal town of Smithton in Tasmania.
Current Australian Champion Anthony Yewers had put in a big effort to prepare and help support the WA campaign at this year’s nationals but his opening effort at defending his title came to no avail after stalling his machine. The Strawberry farmer then flooded his Honda while trying to re-start as his kill switch had activated. He finally managed to get going again but as he failed to finish 75 percent of the race distance took no points from the opening bout.

Fellow Honda man Chris Brenton crossed the line 10.71 seconds behind arch Yamaha nemesis Lancaster. Suzuki man Chad McKay rounded out the race one podium to make it an all WA top three.

Jy Stokes took fourth place ahead of Taylor Milling and fresh graduate to the Senior ranks Luke Gaisford.

Victorian young gun Mitchell Van Vliet was next home ahead of local star Alan Linger.

The high profile dominators on the east coast this year have been the Polaris team of Luke Beechey and Aaron Ovens. Neither rider finished on the same lap as the top nine and thus must have experienced some difficulties that we are yet to ascertain but will report on later.

1 - Ryan Lancaster
2 - Chris Brenton - 10.71 secs
3 - Chad McKay - 42.95 secs
4 - Jy Stokes - 68.58 secs
5 - Taylor Milling - 75.88 secs
6 - Luke Gaisford - 76.93 secs
7 - Mitchell Van Vliet - 96.51 secs
8 - Alan Linger - 104.99 secs
9 - Troy Sheridan - 1 lap
10 - Luke Beechey - 1 lap
11 - Andrew Jackson - 1 lap
12 - Michael Roycroft - 1 lap
13 - Aaron Ovens - 3 laps

Not Classified
Anthony Yewers - 4 laps
Paul Smith - 8 laps

Thanks to Trevor for keeping us up to date

LANCASTER WINS DAY ONE AT NATIONALS - ALL WA PODIUM
25/Oct/2008 - By, Trevor Hedge
Port Hedland dynamo Ryan Lancaster (Yamaha) has dominated the opening day of competition at the 2008 Australian Quad Championship which are being held at the north-west coastal town of Smithton in Tasmania.
2006 Champion Christopher Brenton (Honda) held Lancaster out for the first half of the second moto before Lancaster hit the lead and streaked away. Lancaster and Brenton both held small advantages on each other through certain sections of the circuit but on a main straight consisting of whoops Lancaster's speed was simply astonishing. The powerfully built Lancaster just lifted his machine off the first ramp, clipping the top of each whoop on the power and floated across with so much speed that rendered onlookers dumbstruck every single lap.

Honda man Chris Brenton crossed the line 10.71 seconds behind arch Yamaha nemesis Lancaster in the first bout and 16.47 seconds behind in the second bout. Suzuki man Chad McKay rounded out the race one podium to make it an all WA top three in the opening moto after battling his way forward from sixth. McKay was not far behind the leading duo for much of the second bout before finally crossing the line 34 seconds behind race winner Lancaster, and 18 seconds behind Brenton.

Jy Stokes took fourth place in both of day one's races. Taylor Milling fifth ahead of fresh graduate to the Senior ranks Luke Gaisford in sixth.

Aaron Ovens had some problems in both races and struggled to 13th in lap one but consoled the Polaris squad somewhat with a fifth in the second moto. East coast favourite Luke Beechey struggled to tenth place in the opening moto with chain problems and more problems in the second moto saw Beechey finish three laps down.

2007 National Champion Anthony Yewers is racing with a thumb that is cut clear down to the bone after an incident earlier in the day. He stalled his machine in the opening moto which then flooded when trying to restart it as the kill switch had been accidentally activated. He took no points from the opening moto but enjoyed a huge battle with Paul Smith over sixth place in the second moto. The likeable pair slapping each other on the back afterwards and a clearly pained Yewers exclaiming that 'you don't have to winning to have fun, that was unreal'. Strange sense of humour these farmer types...

Victorian young gun Mitchell Van Vliet took seventh in the opening moto ahead of local star Alan Linger. Van Vliet took ninth in the second moto behind Linger.

It is fair to say that competitors here at Smithton have been shell-shocked by the speed of the WA onslaught. An all WA podium in each of the opening bouts with no other rider finishing within the same minute as the Lancaster, Brenton and McKay triumvirate a clear demonstration of sandgroper domination. Many had expected the east coast riders to be more competitive this year after a busy 2008 season of competition but again they seem to have come up short.

Race One
1 - Ryan Lancaster
2 - Chris Brenton - 10.71 secs
3 - Chad McKay - 42.95 secs
4 - Jy Stokes - 68.58 secs

6 - Luke Gaisford - 76.93 secs
7 - Mitchell Van Vliet - 96.51 secs
8 - Alan Linger - 104.99 secs
9 - Troy Sheridan - 1 lap
10 - Luke Beechey - 1 lap
11 - Andrew Jackson - 1 lap
12 - Michael Roycroft - 1 lap
13 - Aaron Ovens - 3 laps

Not Classified
Anthony Yewers - 4 laps
Paul Smith - 8 laps

Ok home from the fundraiser, I'm quite certain we raised almost $100 000
Just amazing, Ant yewers was on the phone bidding for a Special Helmet airbrushed for Matt Battista, and he was outbid by local business man who purchased the helmet for $12 500.... he then gave the beautiful helmet to Matt....
The auction raised about $80K the rest of the money from Gate/ Entries/ bar and Canteen. Our club felt very proud of ourselves Smile

Expert; dont think Jono managed a result in the first expert race, shoulder popped out at the end of the stutters and then spent most of his Saturday between two hospitals getting it relocated. Trudi had to take him to Burnie in the end as they couldnt fix it at Smithton. !!!!!!!! Mad Mad Big thanks to Trudi. laughing

Great gallery of photos from Trevor also

http://www.atvpod.com.au/racing/2008/Nationals/Gallery_A/index.htm

Spoke to Todd Oleary today and he said that the track is more of a natural terrain style than a moto x and there is a lot of powder off line but still some good racing is happening down there. Im sure that with the heavily watered track that passing was difficult and that can be the reason for the unexpected results from todays early racing.
