Just want 2 express my opinion with how the Herald sun (melb) has delt with the front page story 08/01/09 on the attack of 2 sisters & the tragic death of 1 of those girls from a pack of dogs. The story has labeled the dog/dogs as "bullmastiff's". some of u know i own & am a fan of this breed but the pictures of those dogs r not BM's, they may have it in them but they look alot more like some kind of mixed mongrel & the BM breed has copped a very harsh wrap & have been branded as a "dangerous breed" which is BULLSH*T....!!...period !!
If whoever wrote the article had a clue or had done some research about the BM breed they would know that BM's arnt biters, they pin using there strength & weight & r well documented as being "gentle giants" so this article is a reall kick in the guts as far as im concerned. Im not at all defending what those dogs did & if were mine i would of destroyed them myself but the BM breed doesnt need this inaccurate exposure _________________ 04 TRX 450r

| My heart goes out to the family, but i agree as its not the dogs fault but the owners.... does not matter what type of dog it is, its how it is raised. very upsetting to read this in the morning.... |

Well as far as I'm concerned, I wouldnt care if they were "Killers" and regardless wether a baby is left in a cage with a lion, the point here is the
1 the child was not supervised
2 you can not control a dog, unless it lets you do it (so if your not supervising the dog, YOU ARE NOT SUPERVISING THE DOG)
3 The dog is entirly blamless here
4 the parents should have assesed the situation AND SUPERVISED THE DOG.
And lets face it, If I go to FOR eg JB's house and my baby is out the back with his dogs, he should have the common sense to i.e. lock the dogs up BUT MY CHIILD , MY RESPONSBILITY. No matter where I go.
No body wins in these situations, my condolances to the family naturally. _________________ 2005 KFX700

My pa's next door neighbour (it was pretty much my pa's) had a BM for ages and even when we were little ( about 5 ) the only thing you had to worry about was him leaning on us and knocking us over or hitting us with his tail. When he got older we would be pruning the fruit tree's and he would go to sleep under them and get covered in sticks. He was a really good dog. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

i to have a pure bred bullmastiff. these stories piss me off, every time its a big dog they seem to label it a bullmastiff straight away. then you tell people that you got a BM and they look at you wierd and call them dangerous. If people knew what these dogs were like you would be suprised. they are the most loyal friendly dogs that there is. as you can see by the photos of my dog they are nothing like him.
but who would leave a child in the same room as 4 dogs of any breed. 4 jack russels could have done the same thing to a 3 year old.
cheers

Yogie! right u r my friend & shacks your on the money there mate. people dont understand the nature of a BM until they have 1....yes they look tough, yes they look scary but thats where it ends..i dont know 1 owner of a BM that has ever mentioned them as "dangerous". As yogie mentioned its about where the dogs r at the time & where the kids r at the time. i read the article & at the end of the day there should of been a secure fence between the kids & those dogs....my impression of the article was that the story was based around "this breed of dog attacked two youngsters" which has got my blood boiling...keep an eye out 4 my comments in the "your say" section (thatrs if they publish it) but if any1 else agree's with me jump onto www.heraldsun.com.au & express your opinion _________________ 04 TRX 450r

on a good note....
labeling a dog breed as a killing machine..... is somewhat a good thing when looking for a guard dog!
rotties have a really bad name also and i grew up with one and it was the best guard dog up untill you walked into the gate.... then it was a matter of making it to the door without being covered in slobber.....
bad note.....
in the 24ish years ive been alive i ve seen more attacks and bits and stuff from many breeds..... usually the ones people dont expect.... (respected breeds used for seeing eye dogs......)
i'd never leave a child under 12 with my border collie (13kg of 2year old agility...) he's as harmless as they come... but buggered if i'd be responcible for both the injuries he could cause.... and haveing to put him down!!! |

any size dog or breed can be vicious... AND over the past few thousand years of man walking on earth, he has be,friended the dog and USED IT as a tool for hunting and gathering.... they are natural predators . its their instinct to kill.
Now we get these breeds [some more dangerouse than others] and call them PETS, .... DOMESTICATED... and expect them to be PLACID.?.
2000 years with man hunting, and god knows how long before that ..
They instinctivly attack., we dont know why sometimes, sometimes there IS NO REASON WHY.
I really feel sorry for the family and their loss.
but if the dogs were muzzled i wouldnt be writing this.
my deepest sympathy for the family... muz... _________________ its all good. its just a bit dirty !!! |

A little example. I was feeding my sisters horse 2 days ago and he as a pig of a thing and was tryin to push me around so i was hitting him with my hat and my dog must have thought I was in danger because she ran in and bit him on the shoulder. My dog and the horse are normally friends but because she thought i was in danger she tried to protect me. she will get kicked one day though. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

| I didnt see the story in paper as im in waikerie s.a but the father of the children does live here and the mother moved from here not long ago. What he has been told is the mother left the kids with this woman who had the dogs as it was hot and didnt want to take them out in the heat shopping. The woman looking after the kids is a fault by having the dogs in side with kids and she had the front door locked. The guy next door heard the screams and had to break the door to get in. I to dont believe certain breeds are dangerous its the owners in how the dog is brought up. The only mistake the mother made was leaving the kids with this person. |
