G'day.. I'm in the middle of a resto of my B2, and currently focusing on the front end.
It's a "mild custom", so OEM isn't necessarily important.
I'm wondering about my options for brake & clutch levers.
I'd prefer to have "shorty's", which are an easy enough thing to track down - but would other make/model (eg ATC 250R) levers fit my existing perch/master cylinder?
If not, as far as I would imagine, I should be able to use just about any perch & lever set up for the clutch - but what about the brake?
Do I have to use an oem lever?
Would I be facing a financial & technical nightmare if I was to try to adapt something else - whether it be just the lever, or a complete new setup?
Any advice/thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks. _________________ 87 KXT 250 B2 (a very drawn out project) |

Why not keep it Kawasaki and update the whole set up to later model KX250 Mx'er, would look neat and allow parts availability later if need be. _________________ 1989 TRX 250R |

It's funny... I've been looking at the thing from all angles, over & over.. contemplating this & that, and not once had I even considered that approach... thanks very much for the suggestion.
If I was to go down that path, at which point would I be best to "mate" the new-to-old brake system?
(would I put a new line to the existing caliper, or connect my existing line to the new master cylinder?) _________________ 87 KXT 250 B2 (a very drawn out project) |

I think you should find the fittings will work on the existing brake line with the KX250 master, maybe swing by your local Kawasaki dealer and take a look at the new and second hand KX's they have.
Post some pics of this beast if you can,,,hey are you the radio guy ?

Yeah Tony, I'm that same bloke.
There's really no pics worthy of posting at this stage - it's totally pulled to bits, every single nut & bolt. Apart from painting the frame, I've just been collecting various bits & pieces as funds allow - and cleaning/prepping everything else as time allows.
When things are starting to go back together I might post pics, but at this stage, the rate of progress would make it a very painful exercise for all who view these posts!
Also, I'm wondering if there's anybody who may have replaced fork seals on one of these jiggers? I read on a US website (can't remember which one) that the seals are the same as a Yamaha XT 600, but a listing for XT 600 seals on ebay shows a difference in part numbers between the 84-89 model and the 90-95. ...and why would I bother you ask? because XT 600 seals are a hell of a lot cheaoer than what I can find Tecate seals for. Anybody had experience in this (somewhat obscure) field? _________________ 87 KXT 250 B2 (a very drawn out project) |
