Smitty lost a further 10 min this morning but Heath lost over half an hour, I hope his bike is OK.
The last 3 days are all Marathon days. That means no mid-day service, you have to make it through the whole day un-assisted.

Smitty spoke about his race plan before he left, theres two days left and he's within an hour of the leader, this could get interesting. Careful big fella.
No Heath Young.......and he's not on the start sheet for Day - 6. BUGGER

anyone read the articles on safari.... ie the pepper in the radator?
I hope no one has a go at me for asking, but did they mean screwing up the packet and stuffing the sachet in the hole to plug it? or what? _________________ www.waquadmx.com

No - the pepper grains blocked the hole.........like the old trick of putting an egg in your radiator.

Heath did re-start this morning. Apparantly he and a fellow competitor (Raptor) blew an engine yesterday. They both finished the stage on the sweep truck.
The crews have arrived in Kalgoorlie; there is a final looping stage tomorrow and thats it for another year.

Petey and I were up most of the night working on Smitty's mess. He is still holding 2nd place comfortably, but there is still a couple of hundred KM's to go and anything can happen. I have been on the tools for one night and I am stuffed. I had forgotten how hard this event can be. Petey is a machine. We have put a stack of pics up on Smitty's Safari site now:

Yep, I know it's hard to believe, but I was actually of some use. I even got my hands dirty at one stage.
The site is updated again and we have managed to put the footage from Sunrise Weather up as well. He is on his way on the final 200km stage. Let's hope he can keep it together for one last day.

Final Results.....
1 90 MACHACEK Yamaha Raptor 29:26:03
2 92 SMITH CAN AM Renegade 800 R X 32:30:58
3 96 PLECHATY Borile Bory FM 700 R 33:47:05
4 94 YOUNG KTM XL 34:49:24
5 93 KUBIENA ATV Evolution 42:45:23
Congrats to Josef Machacek for the win, he was consistantly fast but not nessesarily fastest. His speed and Dakar experience shone through, I hope we see him again.
Paul Cowchaser Smith, a tough ride with highs and lows.........It wouldn't be Smitty if there weren't any dramas. He definately proved that the Renegade is as fast as anything else out there in the desert. 2nd place trophy goes with his third from last year; he only needs one more for the set........Special mention goes to Pete W for keeping the man and machine going for the whole week.
Heath Young gave the top of the time sheet a new name for us to watch. The W.A. local and ex-bike racer showed up with a beautifuly prepaired KTM and announced he had arrived with a stirling effort in the prolouge. 1st place in quads and top 5 in bikes is impressive stuff, he kept his name near the top until technical issues dropped him down the table.
John "Maggots" Maragozitis quick as ever on his Outlaw IRS. Engine trouble ended his Safari quest of 2 wins in a row. No doubt he'll be back for 2010.

Hep, the boy's all did us proud.
You are spot on about Heath there Linc, he is a bit of a silent ninja, and one to keep an eye on for next year.
Well done to all riders and crews for their efforts.
Just a funny little note to finish off, we were having way too much to drink sfter presentation with the Czech guys and they let slip to us how they were getting the quads back to Perth the next day before they all flew home....they were riding them. Legends!
