Anything by GME is good.
I've got the TX4200 which is going on 13 years old with zero issues. The replacement is the TX4400.
The original 'CB' or 27MHz is outdated for local communication. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

after seeing this post and Tasatv Amateur radiosetup it inspired me to pull out my old trusty DS Hornet mk.2 i hadn't used it for like 8 years so I made a 6850mm vertical plain aerial out of alloy tent poles straight up I was hearing skip from brisbane , nz , echuca and mount gambier now I don't have a SWR meter so i can't talk as much but it makes me want to do a good job of it here are some pics

the term CB meaning citizen band , applies to both uhf (477 meg) and hf (27 meg (am)...) but as yogie said most people use the uhf cb band these days .

Wouldn't the old sideband give some freaky skip?
All this nostalgia. What next? Panelvans and drive-ins?
Actually they were both pretty good.
Something hasn't changed but with technology. .........

250Rtony, A 5 watt UHF CB will probably put you in earshot of a lot of people down there. And yes, GME is a good brand. There will be some places that can sell, install and tune it for you down there. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I use to love the old days with 27MHz. I had a President Grant and use to QSO all over the world in the 80's. CB got me interested in electronics, which got me interested in ham radio. Been a ham now for 19 years. Mostly use the local 2m repeater for local chat or IRLP for around the world. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Yep.
And now we are using a computer to do similar
except we've got pictures and don't have to drive home
I blame earthmover for hijacking this thread. And well done again earthmover. A excellent hijack. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I had one of them Uniden UH013's with the detachable face so i could put it in where the ash tray should be but the extension cable kept moving in it's socket and would stop me from changing channels or turning it up or off
so i put it on my Honda and forgot about it when i rode through a creek . I gave it a dose of WD and some air.
8 weeks later and this is it now
I did have an old, or new back then, Sawtron 999 UHF turned up to 8 watts it was the best rig you could buy. ICOM was good then too. don't know about now? any one know?
this pic was taken from the web
In my little truck i have an old Electrophone TX 275s. I like it because It's easy and where it's fitted the front speaker is right in my ear so the volume doesn't need to be flat out
fitted between driver and middle seat on the back wall of the cab _________________ If its got wheels I'll drive it!
