Little buggers snaffled the wife's new Polaris last night. Cut through a combination cable lock and three padlocks to get her out of the back yard. Found bits and pieces of the plastics up the road as they stripped the ignition off to start it. This is the second time in a couple of months now and we store the bikes out of view. If I was a parent and my kids were coming home with a new quad surely I would be suspicious, especially in a town such as ours where theft of bikes is common place. These kids parents obviously don't give a crap. Bet you they will be up in arms if their little darlings return home minus a few teeth and sporting a couple of busted bones though. Now I have to spend even more money beefing up security to keep these little pricks away. Thank god for insurance. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Bike found. A good samaritan returning from the hospital approached four of our "local" kids who were attempting to get it started around the corner from our place at 1.00am this morning. They scattered so he trailered the bike back to his place and rang the cops this morning. They have just finished the forensics on it. Apparently it is the same kids who pinched our last bike and are responsible for a fair few around South Hedland. They will more than likely cop the standard curfew and 10 hours community service. Damage to the bike is minimal with the nose piece ripped off and the ignition torn out so they could hot wire it. Luckily I hadn't replaced the damaged back rims with the beadlocks yet otherwise they may have gotten further than they did. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Yep, now the bike will be out of action until I can source the replacement parts. I'm trying to find someone local to buy motion alarms off but we don't have a lot of options here. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

| a little trick of mine is to never store the bike with wheels when not using it, or you are away takes 5 min to put them back on when you want to go for a ride, hide the wheels and the nuts, and trust me who would want to carry a 180 odd kg quad away??? |

They brought four people along to carry it out of the yard and wheeled it away with two flat tyres and square rims. When the police raided the property where these guys live they found gerry cans of stolen fuel and enough bike parts to start their own business. They knew we had the bike and they wanted it and I have no doubt that they would have brought their own wheels with them if our bike didn't have them. These guys steal bikes on a regular basis and the cops here are powerless to do much because of their age (and something else too I think). When interviewed last time they were caught they told the police that they steal quads specifically because they get such a kick out of riding them. Cant argue with that but I just wish the buggers would buy their own. $700 worth of extra security later and the bike is out of action until it can be repaired. We are hoping that it is only Santa that visits our house unexpectedly from now on. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Glad they caught the buggers though, musta been ninjas. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

Thanks Mrs G and yes it does. We now have motion activated lights installed and a cable lock alarm on the bike that you can hear in Perth but we still havent slept a wink since Monday. Unfortunately we know that these guys will be back again at some stage. Hopefully we will have done enough this time around to either scare them off or give me a chance to get my hands on one of them. I think I would prefer the second option. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Do you want a hand. I'm sure there are a lot of guys on here including me that would be willing if you can get hold of them. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

We are planning on taking all three bikes down in the near future to be registered. We picked up a couple of high tensile chains from the local security mob along with some beefed up padlocks. Don't forget to let me know when you are keen for a ride. We are out every Sunday morning at 7.00am in one creek or another. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Its easy to fix
1, Get a landmine from overseas
2, place under bikes wheel
3, wait for them to move bike
4, BOOM
5, no more thefts from your place again, guaranteed
PS, use someone elses bike for decoy _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

yeah, looking forward to it i'm getting withdrawl symptoms!
thought i'd better get an enclosed trailer for up here considering quads are so popular (with those that pay for 'em and those that don't !)
bringing them up the week after easter. _________________ 08 Raptor 250 (missus)

We all hate thieves. And when we get done, we end up staying awake at night. And we dream of revenge........

This guy did more than dream.
2 & 1/2 years suspended sentence would be OK , wouldn't it?

Sorry to hear you've had bad luck, especially twice, thats shocking mate! Glad to hear they caught the scum though.
Im very big on security, whether it be bike, car, home or even personal security.
As good as it would be to connect your mains to a drive way gate, roller shutter door etc - the time you'll cop for it is not worth it. That's not to say you can't have any fun "hunting" though.
(edit - just saw you purchased the flood lights already, good job )
Jump onto eBay and grab some cheap sensor flood lights, set up two sets around your garage or any likely point of entry for the thieves onto your property. Set the third sensor up in your garage or somewhere where there is no chance of false reading from a passing pedestrian, cat, dog - whatever. Run the cable from that sensor to your bedroom, and mount it directed at your bed. It works well even for a heavy sleeper like myself.
If you are handy with electronics, set up several (read - as many as feasable) piezo sirens running off the same sensor, but wire in a relay so that it has a 30 second to 2 minute delay from the light. This way you can actually have time to arrive at the scene unannounced to watch their reaction from said siren. Another option is to use a fairly cheap strobe light, when your crawling around in the middle of the night - in complete dark, the strobe light is enough to disorientate you for enough time for someone to have the upper hand. Obviously after either option you are waiting near by with a phone book, padded baseball bat, home made tazer/pepper spray etc. Something that isn't going to leave too much of a incriminating mark (9 times out of 10, if a crook is handed over slightly bruised after a big fall down 30 stairs (or 10 stairs repeatedly) from your citizens arrest, the boys in blue wont give a crap - if hes unconscious or there is a serious weapon involved its a different matter). Equal force used as to that of the criminal is legal. So if you just happen to find a hammer in your shed, that possibly belonged to the criminal (Make sure your initials aren't engraved on it lol), you would be legally in your right to defend yourself with just equivelant force.
If it happens again and I hope it doesn't mate, and if you catch them, hog tie them with industrial cable ties and place them in the back of a ute or trailer (caged prefered), secure them safely and take them to the cop shop, take the scenic route via a nice secluded bush area, throw a shovel and some garbage bags n gloves in the back of the ute/trailer. Get there and start digging, while giving them the chat - "I hope you're good at holding your breath", "Dont worry, a few of your thieving mates are down there to keep you company", "If I have to come out to this spot one more time, Im going to go through the next guys whole family tree", "I hope you boys are into necrophilia" are all suitable lines. They'll be packing six shades of brown, and then you give them the option. Take their drivers license, get all there details, if they don't carry ID (Which is most likely) go past there home - tell them to describe the house before you get there, don't stop, just keep going - repeat for each thief. Drop off the shovel and gear and head to the cop shop. Let them know before you hand them over that you will be keeping a eye on them, and if they are seen anywhere near your house, your street, your suburb - you'll be coming straight over to take them for the one way drive.
Ofcourse if you do the last part you would be holding someone against their will and not taking the quickest route to do a Police hand over - but hey, Ill cop the wrap for the reward!
