Ay just a little thing to take note of next time you play with the shift mechanisim. After this bloody laydown r motor not shiftin gears properly since ive had it back together i almost gave up and was gunna scrap that set of cases and build another set thinkin it was warpage or somethin like that causin me grief.Ive honestly pulled the bloody thing apart and split the cases 6 times (thats not exagerating either lol)in the past 2 weeks tryin to find out what it was tried different shims, different gear clusters, shift forks, you name it i tried it.The prob i was havin was you would try to select a gear while ridin it and it would just grab a neutral in between gears then other times it would work.REALLY FRUSTRATING TRUST ME.So i sat down tonight and studied and studied finally found what it was.Nothing to do with inside the gearbox it was a tiny shim that sits under the bottom selector arm. That me being me had never put in and missed it when i first put it back together. So when i was tightening down the plate that goes over the top of the shift drum and holds the ratchet pawls in it was actually tightening onto the shift drum itself and makin it tight. Not allowing the selector arms to seat into there grooves aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh almost scrapped a set of these cases because of a stupid little shim washer about the size of a 5cent peice lol.Only thing that stopped me was it worked fine for years before i resurected it and put it in this frame.
Thought id tell yas just to watch out for it next time yas are puttin em back together just somethin to watch out for.
Its a little shim that sits under that bottom selector arm.If it aint there the guide plate will tighten onto the shift drum and itll fool you because it will still work its just tight and yeh sometimes well most of the time grabs a neutral between gears. _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |
