Hi people,
below is a write up direct from the Dakar web site about the quad class.
Enjoy!
A category record will be equalled when 27 quads line up at the start in Buenos Aires. But what interests Josef Machacek is the record for Dakar wins heading into this 32nd edition. Just as discreet in the bivouac as he is in front of television cameras, the Czech rider could tie former motorcycle champion Stéphane Peterhansel and truck ace Karel Loprais with six victories in the same category. A dominator on the tracks, this quad specialist with an extreme philosophy of going it alone without assistance on the Dakar, will have to be careful not to get caught out by his own undoing. He will also have to keep an eye on his closet rival in 2009, Marcos Patronelli, who according to all observers has clearly gained confidence after such a convincing first Dakar. The flag bearer of the Argentinean delegation will have added support from older brother Alejandro, who too has ambitions in this year of the country’s bi-continual.
But Machacek could also face a threat coming from his own camp. Team boss, Rafal Sonik, who prepares the quads himself, finished 3rd last year and then there is fellow Czech and newcomer Martin Plechaty. 4th in 2009, Hubert Deltrieu will also battle for a podium finish. After not attaining his objectives with an undersized quad last year, the Frenchman totally reworked the engine in his machine in order to compete with equal equipment. And then there is Camelia Liparoti, the lone female in the category, who comes into the event as the sport’s newly crowned world champion. The Franco-Italian will consider making it to the finish in Buenos Aires as a victory in itself. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Only a few days to go now! All the competitors are there and the build up has started.......
We have a few Oz riders (3 I think) there but sadly no one on quads.
ADVriders
117 - Gary Connell Husaberg
122 - Rob Pollard KTM690Rallye
121 - Christophe barriere Varju KTM660Rallye
I have found ADVRiders to be a great source of information. All of the Oz riders check in there from time to time and have friends and family post there experiences along the way. You really get an insight in to how this race works......eg
"Hi everyone,
I received a phone call from Garry Connell an hour ago. He has made it to BA without any problems - apart from some difficulties on the first "special navigation stage" - from the airport to the hotel. Apparently the local GPS mapping system requires a degree to set up ... and Garry left his degree at home!
The story so far is he and Gazza (Gary Whittle) left from Perth at around 11:30pm AWST and arrived in Sydney at 6am AEST. They then waited 2 hours for Ritchie (the mechanic) to fly in before then departing on the 12 hour flight to BA. (Have you figured yet that I don't like trying to spell Buenos Aires).
On arrival in BA they bumped into Annie Seel at the airport so shared a lift to pick up the rental Hilux utes. The hotel has a secure area at the rear with locked gates and 24hr security on it with plenty of space for preparing the utes and working on the bikes. Garry has picked up his HusaBerg from Valerie, the ASO contact person in BA, uncrated it and got it running. He has now started the run-in process with the 15km ride from the warehouse to the hotel! The locals have been very helpful everywhere they've been so far.
At the hotel they met up with Rob Pollard and his wife Alana for a bite to eat and some drinks. They are having breakfast together this morning (tonight AWST). Rob can get his bike on Monday morning from the location the ASO ship is berthed, about 90kms north of BA. They have arranged, through Valerie, for a truck to pick up the three crates and deliver them to the warehouse that Garry's bike was in. They can then uncrate everything, load the utes and ride the bikes back to the hotel.
Kevin Elms, Rob's mechanic, arrives tonight (tomorrow morning AWST) while Magnus ,Annie's mechanic, arrives in the next day or two.
It was raining when they arrived in BA, and it had apparently been raining for a few days, but it is now fine and it seems is supposed to stay that way from now on"

A guy from ADVRiders has set up a telephone call in service he has called RallyRadio. Riders can call and give us a run down on whats going on inside the race itself. It's free and you just go and down load the message to hear directly from the guys on the ground.

Just an update on the Quads and Josef and Martin
Pending validation French rider Hubert Deltrieu (Polaris) wins the second stage of the 32nd Dakar. With a clock of 4h18’03 the Frenchman finishes 2’06 ahead of Spaniard Juan Manuel Gonzalez Corominas (Yamaha) and 5’47 ahead of Argentine rider Alejandro Patronelli (Yamaha). This is a great performance for the French rider who goes back up in the general standings and is now 11th 27’58 behind the new leader, Gonzalez Corminas. The Spaniard now has a 2’37 lead over the local kid, Argentina’s Marcos Patronelli (Yamaha), and 2’49 on Czech rider Martin Plechaty (Yamaha). It is to be noted that this second stage was marked by the mechanical problems of title holder Czech rider Josef Machacek (Yamaha), who is now in 15th place in the general standings 43’20 behind the race’s leader _________________ Smitty |

Plechaty defends his country’s honor!...
As title holder and Czech quad rider Josef Machacek (Yamaha) has decided not to race the day’s special stage and go straight to the Copiapo bivouac by road - hence putting an end to all hopes of a second victory in the raid - his fellow countryman Martin Plechaty (yamaha) has decided to defend his country’s flag on this fourth stage. As the first six quads passed CP2 at km 111 the Czech rider was indeed still in the lead 2’59 ahead of the older of the Patronelli brothers (Yamaha) Alejandro and 4’01 ahead of the latter’s younger brother Marcos. _________________ Smitty |

Plechaty is now out and dam he had been going fast.
Yeah 270 is a 700XX Dom
Maggots you don't need to fit a road bike Motor in becase the Patronelli Brothers have been flying on there Raptor 700's
The first 10 quads just passed CP2 (km 138) of today’s special stage and it is now the leader in the overall standings Marcos Patronelli (Yamaha) who is in the lead, 2’03 ahead of Uruguay’s Luis Henderson (Honda) and 3’52 ahead of Spaniard Juan Manuel Gonzalez Corominas (Yamaha). It is also to be noted that the 32nd Dakar of Czech rider Martin Plechaty (Yamaha), leader at CP1 ends here; he had to be evacuated back to the bivouac after a rough fall at km 127 _________________ Smitty |

how far do they have to go on one tank of fuel, most of the quads look very heavy and loaded, but they do look good. _________________ hustleratv.com.au 0407 797 780
