Hi all, Mick here from 47industries and the Can-am X Team.
The team and I thought it would be a good idea for those of you who were not able to make it up to Finke this year, to run a thread on the forum to let you all know what we are up to.
We will be adding pictures as well as text as the next week goes on, so keep checking a few times a day and we will do our best to keep you all up to date.
If you have any questions, feel free to throw them up here and we will answer them as we can.
Good travelling to all those already on the road and we will see you up there.
Mick

Smitty and Pete from X Team and Victor from Team LBR left Warrnambool this morning at around 4am. I will catch up with them as they come through Adelaide later this morning for lunch. When you see Smitty, ask him if he remembered to shut the back of the trailer? (long story). Pete say's that Smitty has just cracked into his second slab of Red Bull and is bouncing off the F250 roof.
Rick and Terry (X Team) got to Alice last night and Terry is already at the Finke sign in office, working her butt off. When any of you get to sign in, Terry will be doing all of the Quad sign ins, so make sure you tell her how nice she looks. She loves that.
If you see Smitty on the road, make sure you give him a honk. You can't miss him.......

Gees Paul you could have cleaned the cow poo off the tyres and mowed the lawns to make your trailer look a bit better.
Good luck to all the guys, have a great time. _________________ If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something. |

We just got back to the Desert Palms Resort after a full day.
Sign in with the lovely Terri at Desert Edge MC this morning, then a bit of shopping (OK, I popped in and saw a customer from my real job) then it was out to our secret little location for a bit of bike testing. We got the emergency phone call from Luke Beechey, when after strict instructions from me to STAY ON THE TRACK, he got 10m down the dirt, went off the track and got bogged to the belly. You idiot. Lucky my Effie had diff locks, because I almost got stuck saving his scrawny little Polaris riding arse.
Simon brought down the Scootaround RZR for a run. "profanity removed" that thing looks like fun. Lisa's broken thumb is coming along well and she is getting the hang of the twist throttle. On to my 4th Corona now and the crowd is getting rowdy, so I will check back with you all tomorrow.

Right, Thursday night was the annual quad riders dinner at the golf club. We had a couple of shandies, but after that was a bit of a blur.
Today (Friday) was scrutineering, so we rocked up at the show grounds at about 11am to set up the Can-am display. 47 movies were cranking all night and the display was a hit with the locals and riders alike.
Tomorrow is prologue so an early night and up at 6am to prep the bikes.
Night all.
Mick@47
P.S. What do you think of the new 47industries/Can-am X Team rig?
We take delivery in 4 weeks.

what a week so far, thursday arvo was the firts time I've got to leave the trailer to get some time in on the quads for some proper shakedown testing and some top speed runs, so far things are shaping up pretty well as planned but some more new gear arrived late this arvo (finally some Fox Floats to keep Smitty happy, thanks Shane) so we've got a bit more tweaking to do before prolouge in the morning.
Scooter just asked me to type in how great he is to, poor fella, the lone Poolaris rider hanging out with the Can-Am crew.
bout time for bed now though, be a busy day tomorrow with prolouge and then packing the trucks and trailers up for the trip down to Finke on sunday. _________________

Yep, started raining at about 4am this morning and has not stoped yet.
Plenty of the half quads dropped it in the mud, even some of the top 20.
Can-am X Team kicked arse with no problems in prologue at all. Not only did Smitty get first and Beery get second in the quads, but they got 11th and 14th respectively. Awsome effort on the new DS450x's.
Back at the park washing everything down now, and trying to thaw out. We hear that the rain has only got as far as Deep Well so far (60km in) so let's hope it stays there.
Pizza bar for pasta dinner tonight to get the carbs into us for race day tomorrow.
Keep looking at the finke desert race site for times over the next couple of days as we will have no range to get onto the web.

Sorry it's been so long since my last post but we've been kind of busy.
The Can am X team could'nt have asked for a better result.
Paul Smith topped the podium in first race, Rick Beer came in with another podium in third.
Bullet played with a few peoples heads and proved the Renegade is not just a farm quad with race plastic's and came in within the top 10 in 7th place.
While the final member of the team MrsBullet, completed the event and was forgiven for going over time due to riding the whole event with a freshly broken throttle thumb.
We will post some pic's in the morning as we are still on the road at the moment. _________________ The way to this man's heart is through his esky |
