 |
|
Hi Everyone!
Gotta little problem I need some help with. I am restoring a US90 (my avatar) - and although I have ordered a new (reproduction) rear fender - I thought I would have a go at restoring the original one - either as a rider or maybe for another resto.
Anyway - I don't know exactly how to go about it - here is some pics of the damage:
Can anyone advise me of where to begin? What products do I need?
Thanks in advance! _________________ 1970 KO US90 ATC

| You won't get fibreglass to adhere properly to the standard US90 rear guard. They are not made of fibreglass originally. It is a compressed material with a coating of resin, so there is nothing for matting to stick to. You can repair it to make a mold off, but a little bit of flexing and off it comes. I would wait for your repo. |

I am getting them from ATC Heaven. You are right - it is a kind of resin - but I have seen a photo on Vintage Motorsports showing it being repaired - just dont know whether to use regular automotive bog or what. _________________ 1970 KO US90 ATC

I thought you may have Ric doing it he uses a double sided mold that gives the smooth finish underneath, its very tricky.
Maybe try a hybrid filler that has glass fibre and body filler like Gorilla Hair or similar ?
