i have been approached by the powers that be at gillman speedway about running a race series over winter. some sort of points series with trophies etc. (actual format yet to be determined). i have advised that there is a strong possibility that some rounds will clash with other qrsa events (ie mx) but have suggested that perhaps there may be some riders who would prefer speedway. could those not choosing to ride mx and have interest in a winter speedway series please contact me and give me an idea as to how many winter dates they might wish to go to speedway so i can give an idea of viability. i for one would prefer that winter excursions to gillman be for practice (god knows, and i think everyone else does too, that i need it), but if enough are interested we will persue it further

G'day Kev
I think the winter runs should stay an informal, non-series type event.
For the reasons you mentioned, like clashing with MX etc, but also because I couldn't be bothered raising and lowering my quad every second weekend (who cares I hear you say).

Importantly, I think the more casual winter series layout allows new people to have a go and get some practice in before the more serious summer stuff.
It also allows the seasoned racers to try different wheels, tyres, gear ratios and other machine set ups.

that's my bit, but go with the majority.

I'm with Bullet. As I have to work every second weekend and I will be racing MX it will be hard for me to commit to a series. As for practice it's something I could possibly fit in before a late shift and not have to worry about leaving early.

Thanks

I'd rather see winter remain practice only, for testing different setups etc in prep for a serious summer series. it would be good to get some extended track time in the winter so we can do things like practice starts over and over and pull laps to refine lines etc. 4 laps doesn't give much time for experimenting

I'll be focussing on the dirt track state titles and enduro series, that will be enough racing for me during winter. I know Lucky feels the same.

Just a question, does gillman do any promotion for their summer series. No-one I speak to ever knows or hears about it, would be worth them or the club getting a bit more promotion out there.

I would have to agree with everyone elses opinions on this one, however if Gillman or Murray Bridge decide to have one or two one off events during Winter, it could be a good opportunity for us all to get back together and see if this practicing is paying off. Sorry, any excuse to ride at MB again is ok by me, but I also say no to any kind of Winter series.

seems like practice only for winter is the go then
now lets see if i can answer those questions
luddy
gillman advertise every meeting held over the summer on triple m and in the advertiser, the last two meetings held there were outside their set calendar and as you saw last saturday the crowd numbers were down. this was predicted and therefore the decision not to spend the normal $3k on radio ads was justified ( i know what your thinking advertise it and more people will come but history dictates a different story once you get into this time of the year etc)
as you experienced last winter we probably can score more laps during practice depending on how many others wish to use the track. i think we had some days where we were running 6 laps last year and squeezed in a couple of extra rounds on some days

froggy
we will all look forward to you giving speedway a go and your availability can be accomodated somewhat by virtue of the fact that either myself or mick will often step aside and allocate our nomination to a rider wanting to have a go if all positions have been filled (unless we are at murray bridge and then you'll have to fight mick for his spot, but you can have mine lol) just keep your eye on the forum for race dates as i usually post them here as they come to light

bullet
yep you're right both with your evaluation of the circumstances and with the fact that i don't care lol

donna
you know full well that i organise the speedway to suit Manshee racing as best as i can lol and since you are now a part of team manshee you get special treatment

mick
you are on the right track now just keep agreeing with us and you won't get hurt

I'm for everything we've been talking about, except...

anything that makes Ding Dong faster. She's already beat me once and I fear a coming trend in this new disasterous occurance.

speedway winter practice can be done on a one event rec licence but race meetings are open permit or even sometimes fim events so senior national licence is required as ding dong said
