didn't know this was happening, sounds serious. and by the sounds of it you could be right in saying there will be no cars at finke.
for bikes and quads i think this is fine. quads may get some more recognition. don't know how this will affect the event with revenue etc. but there has been talk for the past few years that cars may go somewhere else eventually.
maybe finke will have 700 + riders this year?

On the finke website entry # the same as 2011
550 total with quads capped @ 80
Deep well this weekend good training for Thumb Pump & Finke
You interstaters should come along it will only be about 43 degrees in the shade ha-ha

I think it would be a HUGE negative for spectator numbers, sponsorship and coverage/interest in the event if cars didn't race it!
Sure bikes and quads are cool, but seeing some of the pro buggies and Trophy trucks is what gets the fans excited!
Plus it wouldn't feel like as much of an achievement if you were to race ya quad and the cars hadn't whooped up the track! Finke is know for it's whoops and if there's no cars there's no mega whoops!

I'm led to  believe they will have cars, it will still be a state round,  just there is now a national round on the same weekend in Vic.. For AORC...

There WILL be cars at Finke this year, Peter Kittle Motorsport (Aus 1) as well as several other AORC competors will be giving up there Aus championship hopes to attend and will be boycotting Sea Lake (rnd 1)
Peter Kittle Motor Sport
The decision by AORCom to run Round 1 of the Championship to clash with the iconic Finke Desert Race has effectively ruled the Peter Kittle Motor Sport team out of the 2012 Championship. After racing almost every race in the AORC for the last 11 years we will be racing Finke and not the Championship. This decision by organisers has forced us to choose and we will not abandon the Finke Desert Race which has lifted Offroad Racing to a new level of exposure in Australia. We believe AORCom have made a bad decision and it will weaken the sport we all love. We also find it unbelivable that such a major decision has been made without any consultation with Drivers and or Teams,

Even though sea lake is 2.5hrs up the road I'll still be bringing the truck to Finke. Being able to race against the harshest elements we have in our sport and eat at the Sporties is way more appealing to me!
