I have a slightly different problem, the "new posts" icon doesnt change after I have looked at the new posts.. so I must hit clear posts before leaving each section.

Don`t press "back" . . . use the links at the bottom and top of the thread.

It's a combination of techniques, cookies and code.

As it's not really been an issue for anyone up to now, and nothing's been changed specifically in the code, it might have been an intermittent glitch.

That said, our hosting is changing servers at the moment, so if it keeps up the I'll look into it more.

Hey Noodles, I use the RSS feeds from both this Forum and Dualroost for looking at new posts. You sell all posts and can read them at a glance without logging into the forum, if you see a thread that's of interest click on it to go straight to it.

Sorry Noodles, I'm afraid it's not a major flaw, nor a bug - it's working as designed.

I've just spent parts of the past hour or so going backwards and forwards through the forum to test various scenarios.

The "unread" flag is used to only flag new posts since you last visited. So you might find that when you accidentally close the window, it counts that as the end of your visit, and as such resets the flag. Without closing the window, I couldn't get the unread posts to change to read unless I'd looked at them, or clicked on "Mark all as read" on the top of a list of posts.

As HoleshotQR#24 said, you can use RSS to keep on top of posts using RSS feeds. You can also search for a thread or posts by an author using the info at the top.

If you do continue to find it problematic, PM me with your browser, operating system details, and what you were doing to get the problem (in as much detail as possible) and I'll look into it further.

Hi Patrick,
The orange icon appears on the main forum menu page to indicate a new post, but when I open up the individual section the new post icon inside is not highlighted. I haven't changed anything on either my laptop or my PC at home which is likely to cause the problem.

Fossil700R has shed more light on the issue that others may be encountering.

It may be that even though the new posts icon is showing for part of the forum, there's not actually any new threads in the forum section - just replies to threads that you've already read.

Though it should show those threads as having new posts, that may be where the bug is.

For those encountering issues, if this sounds like what is happening, please let me know, as I'm not involved in enough discussions to test this fully.

Everything working as normal from my work pc, but not when I logon from home PC, that's wierd..and annoying too, when I go to main forum page there might be 5 or 10 orange icons but after opening only one of these I return to the main page & the remainder have all turned blue again...

I am experiencing a similar problem. From the main page some of the areas ie 'General Chit Chat' have the orange quad highlighted. When i go into the 'General Chit Chat' section none of the topics are highlighted with the orange quad even though there is new posts IN OLD THREADS since my last visit. This is inconsistent with the way that it used to work and rather frustrating as i have to check the date/time of the last post in the first few threads to see if there is anything new there.

As 'admin' mentioned above, it appears that the orange quad is only present for new threads, not old threads with new posts in it.

Im am experiencing the issues on both my home and office PC. Home pc is running xp with IE6. office pc is running vista with IE7

All,

Please be aware that the change in the functionality may be only temporary.

The hosting company used by OZATV.com has just been bought by a bigger industry player, and the hosting for the site was migrated on March 11, which I've only found out today. The transition was supposed to be seamless, however a number of you might have found that the forum was down today due to a database issue.

Once I am certain the database issues are resolved, I'll revisit the posts issue should it still be around.

I'll also get started on some extra new features on the site at last, including a major photo gallery (and possibly video gallery).

Patrick
