 |
|
I bought a 700 off a bloke who did some work to it. It's got a DMC fuel controller and I believe a tusk kill switch among other things.
Yesterday was my first good ride with it and I noticed that it wouldn't kick over some times. To the point where I was spending minutes trying to start it. I can't narrow down the problem. It happened once before when I first got it so I don't know why. To get it going to just have to keep turning the ignition on and off, pulling the clip out of the kill switch and pulling the knob in and out and just keep hitting the starter button.
There's plenty of battery power so I know it's not that. I neglected to mention as well. It is also back firing occasionally. I feed it premium so I'm not sure what's going on. I tried to start it this morning but it won't idle now. It dies pretty quick.
If any one can help me I'd appreciate it. Thanks _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

The fuel controller is probably not tuned well for starting or idling if it was even tuned.
Book it in with someone who has a dyno and make sure you mention the idling and starting issues. |

Since my last post, I removed the TUSK kill switch. It appeared to fix the problem.
It has since returned and I can't be sure why.
I've stripped the bike of all plastics and checked for loose connections and frayed wires and nothing was wrong.
I checked the battery as well, it still has plenty of life left in it, and has very good connections.
Any ideas? _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

Valves checked and clearances all good. Can I ask, how would this change anything? I didn't think valves would have anything to do with this particular problem. If the bike kicked over I would be inclined to think that it was them first. Please explain it to me a little more.
I'll isolate the slide switch and see if that changes anything.
I'll also try the key switch as well
Many thanks for your help. _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

I'll try that. Thank you very much for your advice. Much obliged.
I'm going away riding the day after boxing day so I will try it then _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

| check for dirt/mud in the combination switch, ie the on/off and start button. I reckon all my yfz's and both my raptors have had to have this switch dismantled and cleaned out and the contacts of the swtches cleaned a couple of times each |
